Instead of beating me around the head why not talk about what you do on Memorial Day.

I didn't beat you around, don't be so dramatic. All I did was comment that what you said didn't need to be said in this thread. Astros games and Call of Duty on Memorial Day are just fine. My annoyance was your suggestions that they all died vain pointless deaths. Nothing more. Nobody wants to be preached to about how war is stupid and pointless on the day they are remembering their buddies and family members that aren't here anymore because they believed in something and bravely fought and died for it.

A suggestion of your own invention.

If you actually read what I wrote instead of inserting your own prejudices you would note I never said anything of the sort.

I wasn't suggesting you literally hit me but rather than telling us about your Memorial Day traditions you have spent the whole while talking about me.

As for preaching, some people voluntarily go to church on Memorial Day (founded by the turn the other cheek and love your enemy guy) so clearly there is a general audience for that sort of thing.

Memorial Day also remembers fallen conscripts, some of which were bound not to believe in anything in particular but went to war because they were told to, were pressured into doing so and didn't want to go to prison.

What do you do on Memorial Day?

On Memorial Day, I read arguments on internet forums. It's the closest I can come to the pain experienced by dying soldiers without causing myself actual harm.
lol

You're not making things any better, Bing, just drop it. The fact that you are going on about conscripts shows you really have no clue what the holiday means to us.

Bing, if weren't for drafting soldiers,  we'd probably be speaking German and/or Japanese right now.

I probably wouldn't have been born and if I were I probably wouldn't live long enough to learn German.

Homosexuals of Jewish and Romany stock wouldn't last long under the Reich.

America probably would have been able to repel the Japanese without having to join the rest of the war.

Who can tell?

I wasn't underplaying the death of conscripted military personnel either.

The fact that many of them contributed so much regardless of how they got there underlines their contribution rather than diminishes it.

There is often a divide between the sort of people who send people to wars and the people who fight them.

Recently a memorial was constructed for the men in WW1 shot for 'cowardice' (shell shock, war fatigue).

Take out the twisted minds behind that war and the world would be a very different place.

Saying that doesn't put the people who died obeying orders in a bad light.

It says more about the demented Empire builders who sent them there.

all the more reason for you to be grateful to those who sacrificed their lives to put an end to the Reich.

I am.

I don't know where you get the notion I am not.

Bingo was referring to Christian churches.  Most christian churches believe that the man that said "turn the other cheek" and "love your enemy" is the same guy that helped David kill Goliath.

Jesus didn't help kill Goliath, that was the older chap that killed Job's family for a bet with Satan.

from Wikipedia:

The Christian doctrine of the Trinity defines God as three divine persons (Greek: ?ποστ?σεις):[1] the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. The three persons are distinct yet coexist in unity, and are co-equal, co-eternal and consubstantial (Greek: ?μοο?σιοι). Put another way, the three persons of the Trinity are of one being (Greek: ο?σ?α).[2] The Trinity is considered to be a mystery of Christian faith.[3]

According to this doctrine, there is only one God in three persons. Each person is God, whole and entire. They are distinct from one another in their relations of origin: as the Fourth Lateran Council declared, "it is the Father who generates, the Son who is begotten, and the Holy Spirit who proceeds". While distinct in their relations with one another, they are one in all else. The whole work of creation and grace is a single operation common to all three divine persons, who at the same time operate according to their unique properties, so that all things are from the Father, through the Son and in the Holy Spirit.[4]

Hey guys

wrong thread?

perhaps, but this discussion stems from a point that Bingowings made that has to do with Memorial Day.

Warb's right, it's just a side growth from a discussion stemming from the actual topic.

But yeah...What are everybody's Memorial Day traditions?

Talk about them and the thread will snap back into shape.

We had one a few years ago of making puppy chow, and have a movie marathon. Does it count if we only did it once and never again?
