Star Wars: Underworld (Cancelled Live Action Series) - general discussion thread — Page 3

Don't care. Not interested, won't be watching. That's about it. There is one and only one Star Wars product I will pay money for and this is not it. Moving on.

“What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one.”

On the plus side, Lucas has said he's retiring, right? It may be that he'll leave this one to competent professionals who know what makes good television and what made Star Wars good, once upon a time.

Maybe the scripts will even get rewrites? Maybe the directors will be the kind who are capable of getting a performance from actors, like Kirshner was?

I mean, the "Empire on steroids" quote is godawful, but maybe, translated from McCallum's exaggerated toady-speak, that simply means "similar in tone to Empire"?

I'm going to remain the voice of optimism here until I am officially kneed in the Gundarks.

Maybe McCallum just meant that with the "on steroids" remark, this Underworld show will have a small penis.

Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.

Saying any SW thing is "like ESB on steroids" is just MarketingSpeak for "it'll be like that one you like the best--but better!!" It doesn't really mean anything, at least at this point, it's just the promoter producer trying to sell it to fans.

By the time this thing happens, well, I dare say that even the PT apologists won't care.

“Anakin had those qualities so rarely seen, exuding an unmistakable confidence and yet still able to touch one’s heart in simply knowing how he was so flawed… wounded.”

Agreed. If that "leak" is to be believed, it sounds almost like the last Star Trek movie.

Here's hoping that with GL's (and hopefully permanent) retirement, we'll get a series that's worth watching.

Though, the 2003 Clone Wars series was pretty good if you ask me.

Classic Rick McCallum interview.

http://www.ign.com/videos/2012/05/20/rick-mccallum-star-wars-tv-show-still-coming

He didn't use the word "dense", but he conveyed the concept. LOL.

I'm not waiting for or anticipating this show. I mean, if it comes I'll be interested, but all I sense in these interviews is that McCallum is trying to make it seem as though they've done more work than has actually been done. It reminds me of Lucas' changing reasons for why he doesn't release the UOT (expensive, not his versions, original negatives ruined, etc.). Rick seems to be bullshitting through the interview.

If they have actually written the scripts, and those scripts have more digital effects and CGI than the prequels, one can only assume the stories will be on par with, if not inferior to, the prequels. Scary thought.

sounds like the live-action series has been pushed back even further , seems like George and Rick got a rude awakening when they realised there was no short-term profit on a tv series, I don't know why they haven't scaled back their ideas and gone for a more character driven adult drama like the Battlestar reboot, probably has something to do with George sucking when it comes dealing with actors and emotions and dialogue and stuff.

Or if they're so obsessed with effects , why don't they take their Clone Wars animation to the next step and do it completely CGI.

any guesses as to what STARWARS 13-13 might be?  the new Robot Chicken produced show? a 13 disc set next year?

and odd that there was no mention of the next 3d installment

Daniel tells us that one of the series' first episodes will involve a group of  bandits acquiring the capability of time travel, and using it to travel back in time to stop Darth Vader from ever existing.

Bastards! They stole my idea! ;)

A few years ago I wrote a short screen play telling the tale of a young Han Solo who has been sent back in time to protect a young Shmi Skywalker from an assassin droid sent back to kill her to prevent the reign of Darth Vader.

In this story I am proud of the fact that I manage to shrink the SW universe even more by giving Han an important role in the Skywalker family lineage.

If the time travel bit above is true, then I hope they use it to establish the existence of parallel timelines; a nice, big, infinite Star Wars Multiverse would please me very much, especially since it would take any precedence and importance the main Star Wars Saga supposedly has away.

I still think it would be great if this were real. Han needs to be Anakin's father! He is still the only character that isn't closely related to all the other characters. It doesn't feel right, he deserves better. Besides, there are a lot of out of work short short people, casting all those dwarfs would be a good boost to our economy.

Chewie is closely related to the Skywalkers!?! =O

If Han is Anakin's father, that makes him Leia's grandfather...

Kinky! I like it.

No, but he and Yoda go way back. I think Yoda was the Bacca family doctor and actually delivered Chewbacca. Who knows, Chewie probably has some Yoda DNA in him. There are 700 years of Yoda back story prior to Chewie's birth, anything could have happened. Then again, there are two hundred years of Yoda and Chewie backstory after Chewie's birth, maybe they Brokeback'ed it up and Yoda gave birth to Han somewhere in there (you never know how these alien reproductive systems work). Han could totally be an inbred, deformed, wookie/little green elf hybrid (which incidentally looks kind of human). That be totally wizard! Then Yoda would be Luke and Leia's great grandfather, as well as Leia's mother-in-law. It feels very appropriate and in line with established SW lore.

The thing you have to understand about the Star Wars universe is that red lightsaber means Sith, blue and green mean Jedi, and that everyone is closely related, it is just a matter of figuring out how.

"...these are like Deadwood in space"

"These aren’t for kids. I mean, we hope they’ll watch..."

So, they aren't made for kids, but aren't unsuitable for kids. Nothing like Deadwood, then.

 Spoiler free for the ST

I like how Rick is several years behind the times.  These days he should be invoking "Game of Thrones in space".

I can't wait to see how dense every frame of this masterpiece will be.
