Aalenfae's PREQUEL TRILOGY (Heavily delayed - computer exploded) — Page 18

Although I have to admit that I'm not a fan of the "this is going to be easy" line, I must say that your preview looks truly fantastic. Well done. It's amazing what a difference the classic music and sound effects make, and, in regard to that, I think you make some excellent decisions and incorporated them well. Bravo! I can't wait to see more!

Also, the color correction and visual effects, though incomplete, were still very impressive.

This worked very well. All the cuts seemed well done, with the stupid stuff all gone. I liked how you managed to focus the attack on Greivous' ship, while beefing up the fighter attack at the same time.

One thing seemed a little off: Obi Wan's line "They're all over me", followed by a shot of 2 two fighters seemingly alone.

I'm not sure about using so much OT music though.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

lucas really screwed up in making rots.it's like he totally forgot about rotj where leia talks about her mother.saying how she noticed she was really beautiful but also very sad.a newborn baby would have no memory of this.so lucas really screwed up there having given the babies away before padme even had em for at least a year.if there is anyways to correct this in either of these movies, that would make it more believable.instead of padme dying through childbirth, why couldn't she die being tortured by the emperor?the emperor trying to get her to tell him where her baby is.since he didn't know she had 2.oh well like i said lucas didn't think this through at all.

Faster and more intense!  That was very nice.  My one suggestion has to do with the clone saying, "They're all over me," followed by Obi-wan with an identical line.  It just sounds too redundant.

Too bad we probably couldn't somehow dub everyone's voice so they called Obi-wan "Ben" instead of Obi-wan...that way his statement to Luke would actually be true.  "I haven't gone by the name of Obi-wan since, oh, before you were born."  I doubt you could find enough suitable replacement voice actors, and probably couldn't alter the lip movement easily enough.

That worked extraordinarily well! It got considerably better as it went along. One suggestion that popped in my mind out of nowhere. Was wondering what that opening shot of the two fighters would look like if the frame was completely flipped. Instead of skimming over the ships they would be skimming beneath them. I see a good spot to transition back to regular frame when Anakin has his first line. May look really bad, but at this point I like the idea of making this look and sound like a brand new film.

Once again, great job!

The music was a little bit messy during the space battle, sounding like it was switching themes with every shot sometimes. On the other hand, the theme when they come sliding into the hangar and popping out with sabres was absolutely brilliant. Felt like Star Wars. That being said, the drums at the end were building, and then suddenly the mood of the scene completely changed. The transition to quiet was abrupt.

He did mention in the post of the clip, and also below the video on Vimeo that the audio is temporary.

Yeah, the music is definitely very temporary, and I'm still working on making it flow well.

In a week or so, I'll be uploading a tweaked version with more of the visual effects done as well, so y'all can look forward to that.
In the meantime, I'll take all the suggestions into careful consideration.

Really liked it, think the colour correction is superb! :) Not so sure about keeping Obi's face grimace thing...

I'm not sure exactly which face grimace thing you're talking about. Which shot are you talking about?

That was amazing!!  The tension really built as the clip went on.  One suggestion I haven't seen posted is regarding the main theme at the end when Obi-Wan takes on the droids.  I think the theme should start as soon as he jumps out of his fighter, it feels a bit delayed otherwise (to me, at least).

I just realized that right after Anakin shots at the controls to close the doors, right in that moment that the doors start closing, you can still see the blue force field. I don't know if that is because your work is unfinished or because you didn't notice it. Anyway, I just wanted to point it out.

Check out my Episode I edit.

Sorry for Bad English.

Great work Aalenfae!  I too agree about the double "They're all over me" - other than that, fantastic work and I can't wait to see more/the finished product!

Keep it up!

Ah, right. The remaining shots of blue force fields are because I haven't finished all the shots yet. Well, actually - I've already done all the blue forcefield shots, but they looked really bad, so some of the ones I've put in that video were the redone ones. I just haven't redone all the shots. No need to worry :) Thanks for pointing it out!

I'll definitely be fixing the "They're all over me!" line. Probably changing the clone's line, as there are more to choose from (Republic commando, The Clone Wars, etc)

At 1:52 in the opening 3:40, he does this weird face, which just doesn't look at all realistic IMO... I'd cut it if I were you.

Ooh, haha. That is a silly face.
I hadn't really noticed that before. Now that I see it, it's distracting, haha.
I'll see what I can do about it.

I think kcutter was making fun of that face in his video about the opening sequence.

I went to cut it out today, but I dunno. Now that I'm looking at it, it's almost a shame to see it go. It's one of those hokey moments that you'd expect to see in a matinee adventure.

I like that re-edit, aalenfae. It's still a bit chaotic, but that has to do with the material and not with your ideas or skills.

One of my problems with the opening battle is that for our heroes, it isn't really a battle, they just fly through it, and the 'danger' they are supposed to face are chirpy robots which just aren't very threatening. You fixed this wonderfully. It looks quite fierce and most of all, serious now :D

Some thoughts:

- Would it be possible to cut Obi-Wan's "...this is going to be easy?" Nothing against the face Obi-Wan is making, but the line makes it all a bit too cute. Maybe Obi-Wan's "I see it" could be heard over Anakin's comm?

- The "They overshot us / They are coming around" bit was a bit chaotic and confusing, since there wasn't any actual shooting taking place there.

- Love the part with the missle blowing up one of the ARC fighters, and Obi-Wan reacting to the explosion. Some really clever editing!

- Personally, I like the part where Anakin says he wants to go help out the pilot who has fighters on his tail. It makes him a bit sympathetic, and shows that the Jedi and their troops have gotten closer.

- You also got two "They're all over me" pretty close to each other, which doesn't sound too good. Perhaps it's easier to change the pilot's line, because his mouth is mostly obscured by his helmet?

- Even though I wouldn't know where to get it, wouldn't it be possible to add in a line by Anakin saying something like "Almost there", after Obi-Wan says "I'm hit"? There is no 'build up' for reaching Grievous' ship. The original cut had that, with Anakin saying the ship is dead ahead, and Obi-Wan mentioning the shields are still up (lame as it was).

But he's a clone. They're meant to die in droves, and the whole point for them coming along was to allow the Jedi to get to Grievous's ship. There is no reason for Anakin to waste time doing that.

no but it does show that Anakin still has a heart at this point!

Sure, logically the Clones are disposable.  But the purpose of Anakin's line is to show that he is an emotional creature.

Well, no, they're meant to be cheaper substitutes than attempting to equip a diverse galactic population for war, not to mention the cost of losing your population to war. Treating them like disposable droids is pretty grim, and although this is Anakin and ROTS, that's probably not how he ought to be portrayed.
