This edit works from title to final edit.  Great example to show how fan edits are not just about messing with whats been, but creating what hasn't existed.  Lots of moments which make you smile seeing how the familiar material can tell a new tale.  Not just short gags and omages but comprehensive re-storytelling, taking a theme, playing it up and expanding it to it's logical conclusion thru the manipulation of multiple scenes and sources.  In many ways the main story tread which is played up in 'The Future in Motion' could very well have occurred in the real movie.  Luke's tale does follow the trend set up in the the first War of the Stars, so although not completely grindhoused, tFiM is a great continuation.  And the level of skill involved shows that TMBTM's craft is continuing to expand.  Enjoyed 'The Future in Motion immensely.

I laughed out loud at the first 'How typical' line.

Thanks none,

appreciate it.

It took me longer than I expected to get through this just because I've been busy.  I have to say that this edit illustrates a number of fine points, particularly how well the deleted scenes could be used.  I still have faint hopes for something like the collaborative ROTJ edit to work out, and if it does, I hope a number of the Jedi deleted material is included in a similar fashion.  Certain choices truly do change the narrative in interesting ways, and I think Jerjerrod's dilemma was particularly interesting and built suspense.  Certain choices were so startling as to be outright hilarious.  I won't spoil it, but the end of Ozzel, "You're feelings for them are strong, especially...you know," rescuing Han, "All too easy."  Many were truly inspired.  Luke's dream sequence in the cave was quite fascinating, and I'm surprised how you were able to integrate the Cloud City portion into it.  It truly raised the tension drastically for that scene.  The ending was pure brilliance, and it's too bad there's no way to make a sequel to all this following your cliffhanger ending.  A very fascinating edit!  Well done!

I'm having a problem getting Jdownloader to accept either dlc.

It's starts to decode them and then stalls at the last moment without listing the container.

Am I alone in this?

Thanks Darth-ender

and Bingowings, the links are working fine with the .dlc in Jdownloader, I just checked.

Mediafire was acting weird lately with Jd though. Maybe all you need is to restore Jd and accept the last update.

Just got this yesterday. As a huge fan of War of the Stars I was enthralled to see this was released (I have been out of the scene for a few months).

TMBTM is a mad genius. So much great stuff here: the opening, Yoda entrance, the ending are but three of the singular masterpieces as part of this edit. And combining ESB and ROTJ was nearly flawless.

My only nitpicks would have been to make some blemishes here and there, like a film burn or something may have helped some of those more awkward dubovers and added a little drive-in flair to it since it's still a sequel to a grindhousey film. And there was some stretches near the end that could have used some changes to keep things fun (more James Earl Jones weird lines!).

Still those are small nitpicks. The ending blew me away, what a different feeling you're left with at the end, so awesome.

Pure genius man, great stuff.

Thanks Mbison.

This edit is now totaly offline ("it's not my fault!")

It hopefully will be back in the weeks to come with corrected typos + a german subtitles option.

Sorry about that folks.

An AVI version of this edit can be found at tehparadox.

They have a thread with 100+ fanedits, shared at rapidshare and this edits is among them.

I think there is also some torrents working in some places.

Finished it yesterday. Super impressed, definitely shows what fan edits can accomplish. You can fix the movie (Revisited), you can restore the movie (Despecialized), you can mock the movie (Ridiculous), you can tweak the movie to remove things you don't like (every other edit), or you can do what TMBTM has done and make completely different movies altogether. You have to make an effort to forget what you know, because everything is different. It's not flawless, there are parts that could still be trimmed and some of the cuts are hard, but if you can overlook those, you have a real alternate universe view of the Star Wars films. My biggest problem is that we can't have a War of the Stars 3. Unless we recast the actors and do it ourselves...

TMBTM,

I just wanted to congratulate you on this awesome edit. It's filled with unique ideas and brilliant moments. And some parts are just plain hilarious.

I'll admit I'm not especially fond of some of the grindhouse aspects, like R2's subtitles, or Darth's seemingly out-of-character dialog. But the freshness of everything else far outweighed that.

And the making-of video was great. It's amazing how much work you put into some shots.

Thanks!

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

As someone said (don't remember who), you can conceive of part 1 as a low-budget grindhouse flick that enjoys unexpected success, leading to a higher budget and mainstream distribution for the sequel.

That was me. :) And after some thought, I could see part 2 as a critical success but financial flop, hence the (SPOILER * SPOILER * SPOILER-ish...) cliffhanger ending that will likely go unresolved.

I absolutely love thinking like this. Maybe another director, inspired by the movies his whole life, recasts the roles and makes his vision for part 3?

Do the current covers for these edits follow this alternate universe line of thinking? Don't mention "Star Wars" or that it's a fan edit, but that someone has tried to preserve these lost movies, etc.

Since part 2 ends with a major character in a black robe... my first thought was Anakin Skywalker, hood up, on mustafar when he first entered the seperatist hideout... a seed of an idea? I don't know!

I love this version. There are so many scenes where you are surprised by a scene going in a totally different direction than what you are used to. Thanks for doing this.

I made a German subtitle file based on the English one and would like to share it with everyone if that is okay with you, TMBTM.

Author

Oh, it's more than okay.

Actualy a member at fanedit.org was in the making of german subtitles for the the version 2 that will be release... but he did not gave me sign of life for some time.

(the changes on version 2 are just some corrected typos on harcoded texts, nothing else)

By the way, the AVI of this version 2 is aready at fanedit.info (a .dlc with rapidshare links)

Is there any way of grabbing this without having to download from Rapidshare?  If anyone knows, please PM me!  Thanks.

It's like someone took random words from this page and crafted a sentence, thinking this would make us take the effort to copy and paste the address from his sig into our address bar to get a loan online.

I tried something like that once, but Moth3r locked it. You can find a link in the OP of the Classic LOL thread.

I've been unable to find this through mediafire. PMs would be great. ;)

^^ It is not available anymore at mediafire. At least not on an account of mine. I don't have account there anymore. The AVI version can be found at fanedit.info under the form of a .dlc ( filled with rapidshare links)

The DVD version of this fanedit is now available again on NTSC DVD5 on newsgroups (usenet).

This is the "version 2": the same as the AVI version already available.

Other than the correction of some typos on the credits and R2's subtitles, the DVD version also have a German subtitles option (Thanks to originaltrilogy.com member Serling1979.)

And the encoding bitrate of the video is also a little bit higher than on the first DVD version.
