Storage in the Garage

Author
Time

Someone has graciously given me the use of their garage to store my massive amounts of stuff.

However, a friend of mine stored things in his garage and after a while, it all got ruined through the damp. I've searched around to see if I can avoid this, and most of what I've read states "don't store fabrics" and "use plastic containers".

Due to most of my stuff being comics, vhs, old magazines and toys, I ask you ot.com viewer, what can I do to avoid the damp? What if I wrap everything in newsprint? Is there anything I can do at all?

And sorry for starting a new topic on such a self-indulgent, boring subject.

Vacuum suction bags placed in sealed plastic grates with those little silicon plastic things out of bottles of tablets, covered in dark sheets (probably plastic), might work.

If humidity isn't going to be an issue, I've had success with double bagging cardboard boxes with extra large heavy duty trash bags, and taping them shut. (Using packaging tape.) It helps to mark what's inside, as you won't remember the contents a year later.

I had to contend with a leaky moldy storage shed for over a decade, and this worked to keep things dry, and keep creepy crawlies out of my stuff. I'm in California, so how well this works in other climates may vary.

The ever popular stackable plastic storage bins are also a good option.

Where were you in '77?

Thanks. I was looking at getting those plastic storage bins. Might make is easier if I want to come back and get out something specific.
