^Which one?
Galaxy Of Terror (1981).
I was aware of this film for much of my life but curiosity only got the better of me last night.
Alien rip-offs in general are kind of interesting fodder and having James Cameron design the film adds curio value.
Generally speaking he does a better job, design wise, here than he did on the big budget film (imagine if Cameron had just churned out thousands of real nicely designed cheap as chips movies, instead of a handful of the most expensive movies ever made)... I'm going to that world for my holidays.
But I'm not going with the crew of the Starship Quest.
For a film like this to work the crew have to have the veneer of civility gradually eroded.
Everyone on this film is either hysterical or an arsehole before they take off (the aging Commander Livar is okay I guess but don't get too attached).
It's one of those films where random stuff just happens and actors (they aren't characters) just respond to it in an equally random way.
The sound effects (welcome back Battle Beyond The Stars laser gun noise) and the music seem to be equally randomly placed.
Maybe it's an alien toy to test if you can shuffle the elements and make sense of it all?
