But getting back on topic, here is one of my favorite things about v2.0, this scene looks amazing

Hold on the 2004 DVD is a downs scale of the Bluray’s source

If A DVD downs scale of v2.0 is made available.

Can I download that if all I have is the

2004 DVD and the GOUT?

No. I think the idea is that you're supposed to own the sources the editor used, like you could have recreated it yourself if you had the skills. Obviously you can't own the film scan's Harmy is using, so the Blu-ray source will have to do.

Besides, there are several changes to the Blu-ray that make the DVDs not a simple downscale. That may even be why they changed things in all three. ;-)

Question 2. Do I have to buy the hole 9 disk set or can I just buy the 3 disk set?

The 3 disk set will do a better job of keeping my table level? LOL

I think the 3 disc set is legal. :)

Unless Harmy is going to do a DeSpecialized Blu-Ray. It could feature hours of actors in front of green screens! lol :D

The 3 disk set works better to level a table, but the 9 disk set can't be beat as a doorstop.  I'm hoping for a super-deluxe 3D release which can work as a boat anchor.  We are so lucky to get so many options, unlike fans of other movies!

Actually the packaging of the SW BDs is so ugly, I wouldn't even use it as a doorstop, as it would totally destroy the look of my room, which has these different BDs and DVDs with beautiful cover-art lying everywhere disorderly :-)

Wow, I guess I've been out of it for a while... been too busy building my own R2-D2 to have paid enough attention to the state of the OT preservation art.  But I got what I assume was 1.0 of the Harmy's DE and watched it last night.

I watched Star Wars last night!  Not A New Hope: Special Edition, not even A New Hope... I saw Star Wars.  And it was amazing!  I was BLOWN away by this despecialized edition Harmy!!  This was as close to Star Wars on a high def screen I've ever seen!  I can't WAIT to watch ESB tonight and then JEDI!

Knowing nothing about the project before watching it, I came in skeptical... expecting to see HD video with SD band-aids and BOY was I wrong.

At each moment where every fan tenses... that moment before a jarring SE change... nothing.  Things just continued along exactly as the inner five year old expected them to.

I can't imagine the work that had to go into it.  But Bravo!!

I watched with a critical eye too and really only saw a couple of things (other than the occasional encoding artifacting) that bothered me at all... but ONLY because I was looking for them.

The shot with Luke and 3PO looking for R2 where you restored the darker horizon looked a little muddy.  Other than that there seems to be an odd stutter in the scene with at the stormtrooper roadblock where there was an image jitter or dropped frame or doubled up frame... something was a little jarring in the scene where the droid flew behind the trooper's helmet... I can't put my finger on it exactly.

But the amazing part is that's the extent of things I really noticed and that in and of itself is high praise because I usually can tell the flaws in something from 50 paces.

Anyway, bravo... look forward to seeing 2.0.  Not sure I'm on-board with things like scratches and garbage mattes being added back in per-se, but we'll see.  I'm blown away with what's been done so far and can't wait to see more.

Thank you :-) Always nice to hear.

And I think that you in turn will be happy to hear that for v2.0 I'm not adding scratches and am most definitely not adding any garbage mattes (as opposed to matte-lines, which I'm adding back on several occasions) and all the problems you mention that you noticed should be very diminished or simply completely gone :-)

It really is amazing work... I mean I felt kind of crappy for even mentioning any flaws because on the whole it's SO good.  But I am glad the goal is to make it even better!  I can't WAIT!

Zottig, i assume you haven't seen any workprints of the new version, so just to let you know... V2.0 simply puts V1.0 to shame.  Its not even close.  Not that it is perfect of course, but given the sources, i believe it looks about as good as is possible.

I haven't seen any work prints, no... honestly I found out about all this yesterday and watched SW v1.0 last night.

Only since then have I read up on the whole project.  I've not seen any of the work prints, but other than the couple of things I mentioned I really don't know how it could get that much better.  But if it does... then YAY!

I'm still not sure what Harmy meant by matte lines... I'm just glad the garbage mattes around the ships aren't something people want back.

I know it's probably sacrilegious, but things like fixing the lightsabers, removing garbage mattes, colorizing R2 so the panels are blue in space never bothered me really.  It's only the changes that altered scenes, story or added or removed characters that bothered me.

I'm kind of the SE changes guy, and I have to admit that I agree completely. If the SE was simply fixes like this, I don't think I would have ever had a problem with it, and 90% of it are fixes and clean ups. It's the other 10% that just changes things for no reason that upset me. I honestly don't think we'd be clamoring for an Harmy's Unfixed Edition if that was the case. But if Harmy is going to undo the SE, he might as well undo it all.

Hey, Ben, you aren't coming over from RPF by chance, are you?  If so, I said he ended up not adding the burns back :)

I have an RPF account, but I didn't come from there really.  I've not been on since the site got taken over and am not sure the current status.

But I am a member of the Builders Council of the R2-Builders Group... thus being busy making the R2.

Things seem to have gone a little quiet in this thread over the few days. Maybe everyone is out enjoying the warm weather instead of sitting inside on the computer. Lol.

It's warm weather all over the globe? Oh, right, that's why it's called "global warming", gotcha! ;)

Don't know where you live, but it was 90 degrees here today so that's a little too warm for me on April 2nd.

At the risk of derailing a bit - Ben things at the RPF settled down after the "Wolverines" attacked :)  The site is now at www.thereplicapropforum.com, and it's business as ususal.  There's an AWESOME foam (!) R2 build going on, and I thought that might have been you.
