Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released) — Page 168

FanEdit won't acknowledge the Purist edition of ANHR because it doesn't "edit" enough (it has all of the fixes, but none of the musical edits or scene rearrangement). Harmy's un-editing wouldn't fit in at all.

Nothing against fan edits, but they're just not for me.  I want to see the films as they appeared in theaters.  Harmy's reconstruction in HD has been amazing thus far.  Looking forward to see v2.0 on my big screen.

I have watched all 3 of Harmy's DE's on my 55 inch sanyo LCD in 6.1 surround with both of my daughters and we loved them, I got the blurays gave to me but when we watch Star Wars my girls say lets watch the Harmy's.

Keep up the great work Harmy, we appreciate all your hard work, looking forward to the 2.0's

The forum rules say you have to own them in order to get edits based on them, but nothing says you can't use them for coasters!

I was at best buy at 9am the day it came out, can't believe I keep giving George Lucas money lol.  At least Spielberg releases his Theatrical releases along side director's cuts or newer altered editions.

Spielberg already said he deeply regrets making changes to ET, and will never change anything else again.  Here is a quote from him on the upcoming Indiana Jones blu-ray release:

"This is the best I think it’s ever looked, because in preparation for the eventual release on blu-ray we had to correct the print again and get the original negative out of the salt mines, and then we had to do the separations, and basically the files, which are just amazing, with all the technology of today, without changing any of the movie materially, we haven’t removed anything, we haven’t added CGI, there’s no digital enhancements! It’s purely the movie some of you may remember from 1981."

if only this was Lucas talking about the SW blu-rays...

“In the future it will become even easier for old negatives to become lost and be “replaced” by new altered negatives. This would be a great loss to our society. Our cultural history must not be allowed to be rewritten.” - George Lucas

Would be a dream come true.

Anyway, it's nice to know that at least Indy will get a worthy blu-ray release!

And don't forget "Jaws", it will come to Blu-Ray this year too! :-p

The Blu Ray release of Star Wars was such a terrible let down.  I personally think that will be it.  Looks like George Lucas will move on to other things.  At least until a better format than Blu Ray comes along.  Any hope of getting the original trilogy released again is over.

No, there is another. *Sideways glance at Harmy*

But seriously, once King George no longer controls the rights himself I think we will get a gloriously restored Original Trilogy. Any group that has the capacity to restore and release these classics would do so in a hearbeat if given the chance and the materials. And there's got to be enough copies of the films that have survived the purge that once the time comes it'll still be able to be done. That, and restoration technology between now and then will continue to improve. So I wouldn't say never. There's just one stubborn person holding it all up.

Unfortunately, that won't happen for many years to come. So it's awesome that we have talented people like Harmy to approximate the one true Trilogy to the greatest degree possible until that day... till all are one.

Wait, you're not saying that I have to purchase those atrocious blu rays in order to be able to download v 2.0 of the despecialized edition, are you?

Yup. That's the sad news. :(

Well, I guess that's that then.  No more Star Wars for me in any form ever again.  And I was so looking forward to v 2.0.

Buy the Blu Rays used. That's what I did. Problem solved.

Where were you in '77?

the trilogy goes for about $25 used.  not too bad.

Well, before I do that, does owning the GOUT dvds count for anything?

I think the logic is that you own the highest def source available. Otherwise, you could just say, "I bought the LDs back in the day - I'm never upgrading again!" I know how you feel though. It feels like the money is just going down the drain going to the Lucasfund of Computer Graphics. :)

So I guess that's a "no" then, right?

Wasn't this thread about Harmy's work ? Why did it turn into another George Lucas bashing thread ?

I think it started about the legality of owning v2.0 w/out owning the Blurays. But I agree - back to our regularly scheduled content. :)
