John Carter of Mars

The title should read John Carter of Mars. I didn't see any topics or posts on this apologies if it's already been mentioned.

I'm very underwhelmed by it but thought it was worth a mention because of the strong Attack of the Clones visuals (and yes, I do realise the novels this is based on existed a long time before AOTC)

I can't be the only one here who has seen this...  What did you think?

I thought it was fantastic!  I understand that not everyone is the audience for it... but if you're reading this, I'm guessing you're the target audience.

I've never read the novels, so I can't compare there.  It's possible it will offend the purists.  But since most of you aren't JCoM purists, you'll probably enjoy it as much as I did.

If you don't go see it, I might have to start IGNORING you.  Yes, that tactic went over like a lead balloon with Inception.  But it's back, baby!

For those that didn't know, you can get "Movie Cash" to go see it from DisneyMovieRewards.com.  You have to buy/have the "Movie Magic Code" from a short list of movies.  I already had one of them and bought another BD for $10 and saw John Carter "for free".

Haven't seen the Disney version yet. I did see about half of the SciFi version, and it was pretty awful. The alien makeup was literally falling off an actor's face in some shots.

They also managed to make the most iconic movie location of all time look drab and uninteresting.

It's sad some people have no idea how many stories and films have taken their inspiration from Edgar Rice Burroughs' source material. Disney is probably in shock over getting edged out at the box office by yet another Dr. Seuss movie, and yet another joke fest based on an old tv show.

Meanwhile, that teeny bopper Running Man clone I never even heard of prior to a couple weeks ago, is probably going to gross even more obscene amounts of money than all of them. ;)

Just got back from seeing it a little while ago. What a great movie! This was everything the prequels should have been. Best movie I've seen in a while.

 

I wanted to bump this thread but since I was the last to post in it I didn't want to double post. =P It didn't do so well domestically but it did very well overseas. To date it's grossed about $179,327,248 worldwide. I'd say it's looking like it'll make its money back. I plan on seeing it again as well and I've heard the same from multiple people.

The media doesn't seem to give a crap about overseas grosses, and has already proclaimed it a bomb. Go figure.

I finally saw it tonight. It was now or never to see it in IMAX. I really liked it. I think CGI has finally reached the point where creatures look like they're really there on the set. Definitely going to see it again, probably in 2D if I can find it.

And that dog creature almost stole the movie. :)
