Well I searched the official site and found no mention. I searched for "Archival Edition(s)" and for "2007." Neither search found anything relevant. I even used Google's site search feature and searched for the same keywords. The only mentions of an archival edition are in the forums. And that's nothing more than speculation.

And I just want to make something clear. I'm not arguing against the further release of these films. Of course they'll be released again in the future, and 2007 is certainly a possibility. What I am saying is that any future release will feature the films just as they appear on the September DVDs, with no further alterations. Re-mastering aside.

I'd still like to see a quote from GL or another representative of Lucasfilm. And second hand hearsay doesn't count. If so many people are saying "Lucas said this," or "Lucas said that," then there must be an actual article or quote out there somewhere.

Scott, you may be right I may be crazy (good Billy Joel song), but if we agree there is money to be made and this box set is not the final box set (Prequal trilogy to come out) and there is a new format coming where the picture and sound have to be mastered up to another level (High-def) and there is work being done to redo yoda in Ep I to CG, and there are a number of scenes, especially in Ep. I where the CG is not on par with Gollum and it easily could be by 2007. Lets face it, this box set has already outsold everything and isn't even out. Imagine what a 2007 release would do for the format itself, it would literally guarantee existence of Blu-ray or HD-DVD whichever was chosen. And Luca$ is releasing THX-1138 in the theaters and probably will do a huge media blitz on the 30th anniversary with all the movies in theatres just before the DVD release. Do you not see excitement and major $$$ for that? As I have said before precedence is there, he never stops playing. I have found quotes prior alluding to certain things, but I don't have anything to give you now and don't want to spend hours looking. We'll agree to disagree. I do put more stock in innumerous reinforcing rumors than anything he says. He is the king of disinformation, going back on what he said, and having everyone in his crew on lock-down.

This argument about Blu-Ray is a non-starter as well. Do you seriously think that Joe average is going to shell out for new technology like this in two or three years time when DVD is plenty good enough quality for the average video consumer? Ain't going to happen this side of 2010 no way. IF theirs a new boxset in 2007 it will contain slightly altered prequels with the exact same versions of the sept OT release.

Well, for me personally, I have the OT on DVD, the SE on DVD, Episode I & II on dvd, and will be buying the Sept DVDs and Episode III on DVD. That's it for me. I don't care what he does to the films from that point on. After episode III I won't be buying any more Star Wars on DVD unless they contain the original versions of the films.

Actually yes, I think that's the whole point. The companies may be working with Lucas for that reason. The present box set is now the biggest seller of all time and isn't even out yet and a HD version would get many people to go out and get this new machine. What pushed DVD really...not really home DVD units, VHS still would be strong...here's how...most people already had DVD players in their homes...PCs, PS2's, and X-box's right, that was huge in getting used to the technology and its proliferation, HD-DVD may be working on making new PC drives, next gen consoles and yes the best box set of all time for sales would be Ep. I - VI on HD-dvd for the 30th anniversary and yeah a lot of people would go get it. Promise.

We all wish he would. Even me. I honestly think it would be best. Just to make people happy. I personally doubt it though. Hell I doubt the Special Edition and the 2004 edition will ever hit HD-DVD. HD-DVD will probably be just the new versions. The thing about HD-DVD it has far better picture and sound but at that resolution the play times are the same as todays DVDs.
