Yes, I would like to have the VHS audio, but I am not going to pay someone to send a 200 MB or less file, so for me I guess this will have to do.

Thanks Sky for the heads up on the Hi-Fi Hobbit, I am grabbing it now, should have it in a couple hours, I can just get the audio off that.
Thanks again for your help
Where are you getting it from? Is it in DVD form? Does it have a DVD menu and all? or is it just the film?

I'm very sorry....I have extremely low bandwidth, and use almost all of it every month. And as stated, you wouldn't be paying ME....you'd be paying the post office for shipping this to you. I'm not looking to make a profit here, just have no desire for this to cost me anything if its not going to further the specific edit that I would like to see
1. Rip audio
2. ???
3. Profit
;-)
audio gnomes?
Sending a 200MB file kills your bandwidth? Damn, you need to upgrade your ISP.
tell me about it.......doesn't kill my bandwidth so to speak, but by the end of the month it'll make enough of a difference that I'll be close to my limit or over. I dont pay very much, so I don't have a great download capacity
There was a DVD of the Hobbit not put out by Warner that was turning up in the "99 Only" stores a couple years back. (Of dubious legal origin to be sure.)
I have no idea if it can still be found or if it's taken from a different master.
This closed Ebay auction will show you the cover art.

Where were you in '77?

LOL, I was thinking the same thing, either way, I will find it, and now I have the Hi-Fi Hobbit I will check out in the morning.
Hi-Fi Hobbit is pretty cool, I thought it sounded alright, it could be cleaned up a bit, I like the intro, and it uses the VHS and the LP for the new track.

Does it come as a DVD, with menus and all, or is it just the film by itself?
Ok, the color correction process is moving along nicely.........one of the next things we'll need is a DVD menu.........who's handy with making DVD menus? I can supply the artwork, I just need someone to turn it into an interactive menu. The artwork of the menus on the official DVD is just too cheery and lame looking for my tastes......but perhaps the menus and all could be kept if there was a way to replace just the background image? I'd like to change the music as well if possible.
So does anyone have any thoughts on this? Can we just change whats there or do we have to start from scratch?
Bump! Anything happen with this project?
Yeah, I'm now considering a slightly more ambitious project with this. I'd like to do what I've mentioned so far, adjust color, and redo audio, but I'd now also like to fix a few of the errors in the film, namely the map. I have a few other VERY ambitious ideas to add to this, but thats a big maybe still and I don't know if I'll be able to make it happen....something along the lines of adding in scenes from the book that were absent in the film, such as Beorn's house....but as I said, that part is a BIG maybe.
Right now though, the project is on a bit of a hold. I WILL be getting to it, but I'm currently serving as 3rd unit director for ESB:R, and working on a re-edit of Disney's Sleepy Hollow animated cartoon with live action DVD menus. I am definitely very passionate about this film, and I promise I'll be coming back to this when I can (SHOULD be in the nature of a year or 2 from now)
Wow! Well Orson Bean is still alive, so get him while you can! Maybe you can use some of his raunchy dialogue from BEING JOHN MALKOVICH to make an R rated version. Too bad John Huston passed away in '87.
Yeah I think the dialogue would be fairly minimal, and would mostly be cobbled together from other parts of the film and voice impersonators when I'd need words not already in the script. But like I said....that part is still in question....not sure if I'm gonna go down that road.....but I WILL be correcting errors from the film to a certain extent
Just found out that this film is available in HD from Amazon: Instant Video. Wonder how good the HD is......and also, if it's been scanned at higher res, then why not release a Blu of it already?
Wish there was a way to rip it with no quality loss.....(assuming it was decent HD)

There is. Check it out and let me know if it's worth it.

Is it lossless on the quality aspect? (audio doesn't matter, only video)

All you need to do is to capture it uncompressed over HDMI using something to either ignore or strip HDCP.
drngr might be able to help.

Given that it's streaming from a webservice, and they're the ones that compress it....

Individual frames going to be preserved?
Just finished a live chat with an amazon rep who told me that all HD Instant Video files are minimum 720....the streaming will automatically lower its quality based on insufficient bandwidth.....but the digital download shouldn't do this. So now I'm curious if AntcuFaalb's method preserves the individual frames of the animation...

That's true. I should have explained myself better.
This method would, under ideal conditions, result in no more quality loss.
It would be, for all intents and purposes, an absurdly-large duplicate of the compressed video stored on Amazon's servers.
That's what I thought muddyknees2000 was asking for.

Please rephrase this question. I don't understand what you're asking here.
