Oh, no, it's good that you pointed it out (though I probably won't be doing anything about it in this case). As to that red sky shot, that is very much intentional.

The shot right before that one looks really blue.  I'm guessing that this is not how it looked originally, but that the blu-ray color-timing makes it impossible to restore to the original look?

Wow.  Thank you so much!  And Harmy... I can't believe that.  That is stunning.  I am ready to be wowed by this movie much the same way I was the first time I saw Star Wars in widescreen.

On the contrary, this is very much how it originally looked. I was quite surprised by it because in the GOUT this scene looks much less blue but this is what it looks like on the IB print (or well, close to this anyway).

We are just now starting to see why wildly inconsistent colors have been considered a hallmark of this film by people in the position to know.

Wow, that's interesting.  Yeah I looked at the GOUT too, and it's not even close to this.  I know the GOUT is not reliable, but you would still expect them to be in the same ballpark.  I wonder why they are so different?

Harmy, it might just be my computer or something with my setup causing this but...

the walls inside of Ben's hut seem to flicker. Anybody else see this? Just thought I mention it in case others see it too. Otherwise very nice Harmy.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

I'm sure that this shot was like this in the original, but it just looks really out of place.

The scenes before and after it, the sky is a nice blue, but this closeup it is very red.  If it was supposed to be like that as per the original, that's fine by me, just is a bit off to me.

It's things like this that make me so happy preservations like this and DJ's are around -- it's scary to see people already forgetting (or never even knowing) what the originals looked like.

That sunset scene is absolutely gorgeous.  I can't wait 'til my download is done and I can watch it.

Wait I'm confused are the colors in the workprints final or not because I thought Harmy was only looking for problems in the despecializing in the workprints?

Yeah, I noticed that, it sort of jumps up and down a little, I don't know what the hell that is, it could be some encoding error. It could be the same thing that's causing the wall flicker. The encoding didn't go quite smoothly and the computer froze when encoding sound, so there may be a few encoding glitches in it. I might actually do another encode with a few fixes - it is a workprint for me too, you know - I can't see it play smoothly in fullscreen until I encode it either.

Ok cool , i wasn't really sure if it was a error or was meant to be in the original theatrical version

Man, these look great!

And BTW, the sky is red in that one shot because it was filmed at a different time. In the days before digital color grading, you could only shoot sunset scenes at sunset, and thus the lighting is constantly changing. Compound that with the fact that there's multiple takes, coverage, and the scenes weren't necessarily filmed in chronological order. Thus, in the final cut, we may hypothetically go from a shot filmed at 6 PM to a shot filmed at 6:30 to a shot filmed at 5:45, and the lighting will thus be inconsistent, even with the tweaks that could be made with photochemical color timing.

It is so true.  I'm only 24, so never fortunate enough to see SW in theaters (at least originally.  my dad brought me when they were re-released).  My dad was a huge fan, and I have grown up on these films, but over time, I have just been desensitized by the Special Editions.  Glad to finally experience this as it was meant to be!  Unfortunately my dad has since passed away, so I won't be able to share these with him.  Thank you so much for what you do, and keep up the great work Harmy!

In the process of watching it.

I can see some weird shaking or something going on in the background around the Leia hologram in the first hologram scene. Custom matte?

Everything else looks really amazing!

On the subject of Vader's green chestbox button, I am ok with it looking a bit blue sometimes. The green color has some aqua green hues and isnt straight up green.

If the new reference Harmy is using has it looking blue sometimes, I'll go with that. The whole reason I brought the topic up in the first place was that the button had changed from GOUT to blu ray.

Harmy is fighting a lot of things in his sources during color correction which make compromises unavoidable, but for the record, Vader's chestbox "light" is a pure green; it does not have any aqua tones.  It's "Christmas" green.
