Oh goody, now that you have the ITV recording back, I'd like to ask again - does that version have the burn marks during the Tantive camera shake?
Did you ever get that fullscreen Jedi DVD?
Where were you in '77?
Still not got and still looking. I have seen silly prices of over $200 but it ain't worth that. People just will not ship to the UK!!!!!

Some one may want to do a preservation of this
Star Wars Empire Stikes Back and Return of the Jedi on Beta Video UNOPENED

The Betas are identical to the fullframe LD and VHS masters of the era.
Where were you in '77?
I know but Beta is better than VHS. I am not shore about Laser Disk But I think Beta was used for TV broadcasting
You're thinking of Betacam. The tapes look similar, but are incompatible.

I recently saw the Betas of ESB and Jedi, and there were no differences from the LD versions.

On first look, they are not there. I will check a bit closer later on just to make sure.

Ok I was wrong about Betamax being used for TV broadcasting But I still think it was better than VHS. As for Laser Disk I have never used one. But I thought the early LD’s of the Star Wars movies Had time compression? Or was that just on that weird other Disk that played video with a needle like a record player

I don't fancy getting into that war again.

some of the early LD, and CEDs did, the later one's didn't:
For ced's:

for some of the pan and scan ld's

there's a ton more links.. just do a search for laserdisc.

Hey Russ, when you check again for the burn marks, can you also check and see how the Greedo subtitles were handled?
Can you make screenshots for the Tantive shake and the Greedo subtitles and put them here?

Three lines of text in a single subtitle. That is just nasty.
From what I have seen, it is like that in all releases in all formats and standards prior to the THX releases in 1994.

It's more a blast from the past than anything; sometimes I forget all the details of the bad old days ;)
For info, the little wavy box in the top right hand corner of most of the pictures is in indicator we get over here in the UK to say that an ad break is due........

Thanks for the pic. Does this ITV broadcast preservation have a name or is it attributed to any organization or individual? What's a good guestimate for broadcast date? Japan TV premiered in late 83 (i think) and the US CBS was early 84.
According to:
http://boards.theforce.net/uk_regional_forum/b10027/8627086/p2
Star Wars was first shown on British television by ITV on Sunday 24 October 1982 at 7.15pm.
If this is correct then it aligns with when in the US SW began showing up on pay tv systems.
Here's a 1987 Christmas ITV SW partial end credits and commercial break:

Added the pic to the 'Orange Items' page:
http://fd.noneinc.com/Glitch/starwars-tantiveorangeerrors/starwars-tantiveorangeerrors.html
As there is no orange, this aligns with the 82 CED, 82 Library VHS, 82 VHS PAL and 86 Japanese LD.
The OT.com thread on the Oranges is: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Star-Wars-Tantives-Orange-Items-Thread/topic/13355/page/3/

Here is a little experiment I did.. Needs a lot of work but I did it in paint.
If some one is going to preserve the Faces VHS Here is one new Never opened.
Wow, I really like the saturation of colours looking at Han Solos face in the ITV broadcast - this is definitely not a washed out print it seems. Have you done a capture of the whole film?
That's interesting - it looks like the other P&S video releases in terms of subtitles and lack of burn marks, but Russ' flyover comparison page shows that it has the '77 flyover and not the '81...
