Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released) — Page 122

For those interested,
It's time for a short update on things, we really made some headway lately, at least on Star Wars, we are concentrating on 1 film at a time, where in the past I would jump around lol, but anyways here is where we are at currently.

First, Star Wars is rendered, I am going to encode it tonight, and I said that we may not do any frame fixes and just leave it "as is", well we didn't, we fixed quit a few frames, more so than I did when I was planning V2 on my own, and again, the color is just friggin cool, I still can't believe that it can be brought out and look this way, it really is very cool, I know I sound like a broken record on this but I still can't believe that this is the "Bonus DVD's" lol.

Second, the new 85 Home Remix that I got ripped from the LD and not captured, is now in synch and all I need to do is just go over it a couple more times and render a new lossless wav file and encode a new DD file.

So as you can see once I have my encode, all we are waiting on is the updated Menu files, and the possible new files from hairy_hen, I PM'd him a few days ago to get an update but have heard nothing, so if this falls through, well then the default track will be the DTS-HD MA 5.1 track that is on the V1's, so at this point I have no idea if these are still going to be done or not, sorry.

Well that is it for now, I will probably post a sample video soon with audio.

Hey, sorry about not getting back to you before.  I am indeed continuing with the new version, but unfortunately equipment trouble has prevented me from making as much progress as I'd like, as well as other non-SW things that have taken my focus away from it lately.  But it is indeed going to happen, have no fear.  ;)

That's great to hear DJ! I can't believe this much success has been had by using the GOUT. It makes me a little sad to see how much success true fans are having with such a sub-par source, because it just reminds me what Lucasfilm could have done themselves. Oh well. Thank you, but it is not just me, my partner You_Too is just as deep into this as I am, it is SO nice having a full fledged partner this time around, but he is seeing how painstakingly tedious this is\will be, and there are times when you wonder, "why in the hell am I even doing this" I spent most of my day just preparing a script and rendering the bad frames to fix them in SW, plenty of times I just wanted to walk away and fire up my Xbox lol and relax, but I stuck with it and now it is done and ready for encode.

But Empire, oh boy, Empire, this is going to be a real treat, or I mean a pain in the ass!

plus I am building yet another PC, I am building my 11 year old Son a very nice Gaming PC like mine.

I need to get this project done before Mass Effect 3 releases lol!

Ah, didn't mean to give You_Too the rough side of the pineapple! Thanks to You_Too as well! Anyways, I think you hit the nail on the head with "why in the hell am I even doing this." Anyone who has ever started a project has reached that point. Flat out, it's because we love Star Wars. In all of our whining and bitching about George Lucas and Lucasfilm and the Blu-Ray release and the EU and the Prequels (etc.), I think people are too apt to forget just how good the movies are (I don't even mind Jedi that much either). Flat out, they are phenomenal. I hadn't watched them in a while, so this past weekend I broke out your V3 DVDs and watched them all, and despite how many times I have seen them, I was blown away. Those movies were groundbreaking. It is unbelievable how well the effects have held up. Star Wars is over 30 years old, and the space fights still do it for me. Some of my housemates ended up watching with me, and it turned out that two of them had never seen the originals. They had never actually seen Han shoot first, or heard Yub Nub. Not to be cliche, but it was somewhat magical watching them get to experience the same thing that people in theaters did all those years ago. Just incredible.

Funny thing you mentioned the V3 DVD's, along with the BLU V2 I am going to use that lossless avi from from that project and encode a new DVD video file(V4 if you wish) if there is interest and it can be swapped out to make a new V4 DVD Set, these will be encoded at the same bitrate as the V3 but will have all the enhancements of the BLU V2, then I will upload them to Spleen, again if there is even any interest in DVD video.

I assure you, even if you'll watch this new version on DVD, it will blow you away. You've never seen the originals this full of life since the cinema.

Since I'm in the same boat with a DVD player and 26" TV I've been paying a "little" less attention to this thread (by "little" I mean only checking once a day). :) That said, I'm amazed by the amount of goodness you've been able to extract from these sources! Count me in for the V4 DVD's and a huge thanks to everyone who is working to make these a reality!

As good as the V3 DVDs were, I would love to see V4s.  FWIW, I've been seeding the V3 DVDs since day one, and I think I've upped 30 full copies of the ISOs.  I'll be happy to do the same with the V4s.

It's a shame that the Bluray versions won't work for me though.  Even though I have a 65" 1080i TV, Bluray players refuse to trust it because of HDCP, and won't provide full-rate video.  Bluray is evil...  So if better DVDs are an option, I'll gladly support them!

Just please keep in mind that it will be the video file only, you guys will have to swap it out with the V3 yourselves, I no longer have any of those files and to be honest, most of my time is for the BLU V2 really, I just thought that this would be a good alternative for the DVD Folks.

That being said I need some help from someone, could someone make up a how to on switching out the video files with the V3 DVD and keeping the chapters and such? then I could include it in the torrent with all the right programs needed along with the new V4 video file, this would be greatly appreciated, I think Ady had a how to somewhere, or was that for audio? I can't remember.

You'd need a combination of DVD Decrypter, PCG Demux, Muxman and VobBlanker: rip the original disc to a folder, demux the main movie streams, remux with the new video, and then plug the new audio/video package into the original disc.

I wrote a full guide on all of this a couple of years ago with the intention of using the (rather lovely) 16:9 GOUT menus with your V2 video, but lost it (along with the edited menus) in my last PC upgrade - I now only have the finished discs. I think I may have emailed you a version at the time, though?

I was actually thinking of doing a PDF file with pictures to help illustrate the instructions, but if you would prefer a plain text txt file thats cool I can do that. :)

 

WOW that sounds even better, no if that is what you want to do go for it, the easier the instructions the better.

Actually, if you meant me, I'm 27 so I wasn't even born when they hit the theatres originally.

My introduction was sometime in 1992-93 maybe, when they were broadcasted on TV.

i've got a mac, had these on my pc for a while, turned them into .img discs stored on the HDD, now how do I burn them? Anyone have a good software for this? Does Disc Utility work?
