I think George was clueless to the possibilities of home cinema.
He was very slow and pained to release the Star Wars films on video and DVD.
For a guy who is meant to be a pioneer of digital cinema he showed a huge lack of foresight when he filmed the PT with such low resolution (which now means that AOTC and ROTS blu-rays are probably on par with any future theatrical release, especially if it's going to be 3D).
He showed an interest in the 3D conversion process from day one but only put an example a few days ago and then after putting out the blu-ray discs not realising that that would undermine any chance that theatrical run had.
If he was in any way savvy when it came to the home cinema market he would have maximised his profits by putting out pristine set of all cuts of the films AFTER the 3D theatrical run.
That way the theatrical release could have been used as a giant advert for the home cinema release instead of the home cinema release rendering the theatrical release redundant to a large share of his target audience.
I don't think he even cuts the mustard as a man of business anymore let alone as a film maker.
