Well I have good news.... I ploughed into visualizing and doing sound clips for what I have left on "my list" to mock-up and visualize and complete what I started 2 months ago... Quite a bit of progress was made yesterday and I am thinking or believe that I will have a complete rough cut of ROTJ of my vision and in some cases our vision by the end of the weekend if not begining of next week.

I will not be able to share it in whole here due to forum restrictions but I will be sending a link to Darth_Ender, Mr InsaneA and fishmanlee atleast for their refererence. But I will share the clips here.

I have completed the executor arriving at Deathstar II and the parting of ways after the sail barge blow up now on tatooine and many of the missing shots to luke finding the falcon on tattooine. Done Vaders Audio Lines for the new opening also. Rough Title crawl is also done. And Audio cuts to Mon Mothma in the briefing

Whats left on my list?

1.Lars Homestead and the Haboob sandstorm with inclusion of deleted scene Luke going to the x-wing.with flashback sequence not sure how this will turn out but I'm hopefull

2.Adding Some Audio to the opening and a quite a few new shots and the inclusion of Vaders lines from interactive boardgame re-using footage from ESB Bobba fetts console animation.

3. Adding drumming to the Rancor pit entertainment (FX not required)

4. Add elements of jerry goldsmiths planet of the apes to the opening and the sarlac pitt see below (FX not Required)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJnBF3Taf4A

5. Add luke saying "yoda" after Vader says in the final duel "Obi-Wan has taught you well." (FX not required)

6. insert the middle journey to endor speeder bikes etc & insert celebrations and end credits etc (FX not Required)

7. Might expand the final space battle with the inclusion of darth_enders cues on falcon gunners re-using some ANH footage. @Darth_Ender if you can colour correct the Death star surface shots and some of the approach from the star tours DVD you got I will include this also and put it in the falcon cockpit window. I plan to do a cockpit shot of a ship slamming into the shield also if i can. And the falcons approach to Deathstar 2 using star tours 2 cgi footage too. But may not have time for all this extra stuff but I'll do what I can.....

8. 1 shot remaining to complete Lukes arrival at tatooine and finding the falcon + insertion of audio lines.

on it's way soon hopefully.... I only have 5 days left on my CS5 trial so any effects shots after this point are not possible for me to do and is my deadline at present.

It is only a rough cut but I am excited to finish this now.... this is also a bit of a reference list for myself so sorry for the long post All FX shots will take preference first everything else later So hope I am not underestimating but I probably am I will not be including Jerjorod targeting Endor because I don't like this idea.

Ronster, that's great news!  I'm excited to see what you've done, and I'm sure your skills are improving.  As for Star Tours, I actually am finally figuring out how to color correct it better, and I've nearly gotten it to a point where I'm pleased with it, though it will always have its shortcomings while I work with it.  I'll try to upload that today along with my script.  I look forward to seeing what you've done with the various clips for your mockup.  Keep up the good work.

I tried to colour correct it myself and kept over doing it I think but I just could not get the colours how they should look without losing somthing else... I have decided to move on now and get the meat and potatoes of my ideas out the way but if you can do it as your results were way better than mine I'll do the rest i.e. cockpit stuff and render as a mock-up hopefully before the trial runs out...

I'm excited because I have improved a  little and some of my results look better which is spurring me on to atleast get some of these ideas visualized for reference for the people who really know how to do this stuff really well.

so just about to start on some more now....

I know what you mean about the colors, and I'm afraid my results may not be perfect either, but I think it will be something we can work with.  I do have the advantage of a higher res source (which I should upload for others to use, now that I've said that), but the disadvantage of some of the worst interlacing I've ever seen, and which the many deinterlacing filters of AVIdemux can't seem to completely cure without losing some detail.  Anyway, I will really try to get it all done today for everyone's enjoyment, including the script.  Good luck with your efforts Ron, as they are inspiring.

Very interesting.  Obviously just a rough idea, but the visuals could create some powerful emotions if completed and utilized well in the story.  Nice work, Ron.

So I am thinking about this image and the sandstrom will roll in from the left... I plan to show a flash back of lukes foster parents of when he leaves obi-wan in ANH and perhaps some original binary sunset footage before the suns become engulfed by the haboob...

I don't quite know how this next scene will work but I would also like to show Vader chopping lukes hand off again from ESB either before or after he checks his hand in the sandstorm probably before... Using Lukes Voice Only for the "Nooooo..." and "I'll never join you" with Vader reaching out to him If I do the voluntary fall from the tower I thought about him falling through hyperspace but I do not know what final image to flash but I would truly love to show luke with sith eyes as he takes off his hood....but where should this be?

Dagobah cave and luke meeting a sith version of himself lol ah I don't know

And then cut to him touching his hand in the storm before getting in the x-wing

It would be like seeing a jedi premonition

Any Input or ideas could help me out here....

Edit: I want to show young luke when his life was more simple + his foster parents death again primarily

Someone linked to it, and now I can't remember where it is...where is the thread where folks talked about how they would remake ROTJ?  I hope that the idea people here can read through that and other threads (now linked in the first post) and come up with other ideas.  I hope that someone (preferably not I) will then start a new thread keeping close track of popular but not vote-winning ideas that could be later used to expand upon this first edit.  We may even find some good ideas to include in this edit that we hadn't thought up yet.

Okay, here it is!  Star Tours color corrected (somewhat).  This is the most stable, color corrected version of the actual film I know of.  There are still problems with it, mostly related to artifacts from enlarging the video and too much blue, noticeable in dark shots.  However, I'm rather proud of what I as a newbie at editing was able to accomplish with the limited, super yellow source.  I will also upload the version I have for others to dabble with it.

http://www.4shared.com/video/aaJyyxSL/star_tours_with_some_color_cor.html

It's also not as complete as other versions.  If a complete restoration is to be done, someone will need to download one of the YouTube videos and add the beginning.  This also uses slightly different audio from the version that actually plays on the ride, but that is available online as well.  I will probably get around to further correcting and completing this at a later point, but I'm done for a short time.  Hope you all like it.

It is actually too bright,  I tried to reduce the brightness to allow details to show up better, particularly on the Star Destroyer and Death Star.  However, it adversely affected the star pattern.  It does look better if you actually download the video, though, rather than viewing it just in the little window 4shared provides.  I know you are a busy man, Harmy with your own project, but if you ever get the chance to color correct my source, I'm sure it would be a million times better.  I'll upload the VOB for you to compare and for anyone to take a stab at fixing it up.

EDIT: I'm clipping the video just to show the actual movie footage, and I'm converting to mpeg instead.  Should be up soon.

Okay, guys, I've spent far more time on this than I ever imagined it would take.  Here's the script/editing guide:

http://www.4shared.com/office/vkbBMYmz/Editing_guide.html

What it is is every line in the script, with alterations color coded and commented, much like before.  However, everything is numbered, and the comments are far more specific.  I included quite a few pictures as well to give an idea of what we've talked about.  This reflects everything we've ever voted on, I believe.  I believe I have to leave most musical choices to the discretion of GoodMusician, however, but he is aware of fishmanlee's suggestions.
At the end of the script is a list of errors in the film.  I did not write this, so I'm not sure how accurate it is.  I had hoped to include these as fixes in the comments, but what I've done already has taken quite a bit of time, so they're all just at the end, also numbered.
I believe at this point we can starting handing out or volunteering for assignments.  I won't do that today, but I believe the numbering guide will make this easier, as will the specific comments and pictures.  This is no small project.  If editors want to grab some friends, this might be a good time.
Let me know if there are any problems.  Please read it guys, especially the editors.  At least glance through it swiftly.

Well done on the script Darth_Ender... It certainly highlights what a massive daunting undertaking this project really is... But as Joahannus said we need to take the small steps approach and chip away at it lightly one step at a time, bit by bit, scene by scene rather than being scared of looking at it as a whole.. How do you ever think I got any of my rubbish mock-ups done.

You have had the same problems I had then with the star tours 2 footage also I opted to make it brighter rather than darker as you have just cannot get it to look right :(

Just been thinking about the sarlac pit and what It would prey on normally as a living animal or creature so I guess the answer is sandworms.. It would pull them in when they came too close with it's tentacles So I have found footage and plan to show a sandworm moving under the sand before the sailbarge reveal as for the creature to survive it would need sandworms fairly prolific in the area it would also explain the reasons for all the floating skiffs / speeders ect because of sandworm attacks in the open desert. we also saw the skeleton of one in episode 4 A new hope so this would correlate I feel. Edit: whoops it's not it's a krayt dragon

But I only want to show a shape under the sand and not an actual sandworm on the surface keep them mysterious as they are by nature...

So i'll paint out the small bantha herd but also but show the eco system like sarlac eats sand worms - sand worms eat banthas... Making the sarlac more believeable as a creature because not much even delirious desert travellers or creatures will simply fall into that things mouth even every hundred years....

That certainly sounds interesting, Ronster.  It makes Tatooine seem even more dangerous.

As for Star Tours, I'm thinking I would need to get into rotoscoping to fix the brightness issues.  Again, I'd need new software, and I probably don't have time at the present to undertake this.  But hopefully someone talented will try this.  It's only a 4 minute movie, so preserving it seem really worthwhile to me, especially for our edit.

I know this might be a bit of a pipe dream (and I have spoken out against it in the past), but if we were to film new shots of characters what would we want?

The reason I ask is I have been in touch with someone who runs the UK garrison of Star Wars costumers (because I'm in the UK so it seemed the easiest, but there are similar groups all across the world and loads in America).  I briefly explained what goes on at this site and asked if he thought the people who are involved with costuming might be up for helping with reshooting the odd bit or shooting new scenes or whatever, and he was very supportive.  Obviously I still need to speak to the individuals themselves because each person makes the costumes they want so it would be up to them, but their costumes are very much screen accurate so it would save us having to try to buy or make accurate costumes if we can rope in some people who already have them.

With that in mind I was wondering what characters I should be looking out for?  I doubt we are going to find anyone who is a convincing twin of any of the main characters, but we could probably find someone with a convincing enough Luke costume to film a shot of him with his hood up walking away from the camera which could then be used to form a shot of Luke visiting his old home (like Ron's mock up).  Other examples might be trying to create extra shots to help more smoothly transition between the film footage and the deleted bunker scene or something like that.

Anyway, this is definitely a work in progress of an idea, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to get a few ideas rolling and see if we can make any happen.

Very good, Johannus!  In my mind, the costumes we will most likely need include pilot outfits (and there are multiple types of this), and commando outfits.  Those could be integrated most easily into the film.  If you are able to even get an idea of the likelihood of getting our hands on some of these, that would be fantastic!

Well the guy I spoke to said its quite a wide community of people that visit the site, mostly costumers, but also fan film makers and so on, so if we are very lucky we might even meet someone there with the means to film things for us, who knows.  I'm not 100% sure but I think there is a similar garrison in the US where they have a spefic following of Endor troopers (I think it is in California, but only going from memory), which it might be more useful to get in touch with.  The reason for this is even if I find a dozen suitable costumers willing to help out in the UK, I have no idea where we could film in a woodland that would pass as Endor (though I'm open to suggestions).  Pilots would be easier because there are so many types and they could be used in a number of 'sets' so I'll see what I can do there.

Would it be easier to find a good Vader costumer and try to reshoot him walking and then superimpose that onto a new background than trying to restore the delete scene footage of Vader walking down the corridor?

Something I always wanted to see is a couple of Wookiee troops mixed in with the rebel troops on Endor (and maybe other races too), never given much screen time, but to show a more diverse alliance compared to the human Empire.  I don't know how possible that would be but I think it might be worth considering things like that because I just don't know what costumers might be interested, but if we have a big list of ideas we would like to make happen, we can tick or cross them off as and when we find out what we would have available.

I'd rather not add to Darth_ender's workload with regards to having to keeping track of even more ideas and suggestions so if it is ok with everyone I would be very willing to try to organise these ideas and then see how realistic they are with regards to finding the costumers to help.  Would anyone mind that?

Good work thats great I'm in the UK too!

I already have the shot of him walking away.... From the sandstorm deleted scene footage I finished it about 30mins ago it's only rough but it's done

We need Endor Commandos 100% oh and Rebel pilots

Can anyone suggest a star wars fan-film where Vader chokes a general or admiral of a star destroyer I need this footage...

I'm only guessing but wouldn't it be better quality if we reshot it?  Though to be honest I didn't realise that shot was even available in the deleted scenes so it is probably best to use proper footage wherever possible.

I don't but I will add it to the list of ideas to film if nobody can think of some footage for you.

Ender.....if we can do everything in this script....

I think this might turn into my favorite Star Wars movie ever.

Best part has to be....

Ric Olie: Yep, that's a lot of TIE fighters!

You answered your own question! California, definitely. But if there's any Canadians around Vancouver works very well too.

Agreed on all points.

Also, I'm starting to think having Anakin appear as a ghost at the funeral pyre is a good idea ONLY if he disappears. To me, that would mean that Anakin is still redeemed, but the poignancy of his final talk would Luke wouldn't be decreased. He's not going to be punished for eternity, but he won't be able to be among the living anymore. I have more things to say about this, but, basically, this is the way to go with Anakin's ghost.

You know I thought about this and I still think it's best to get rid of him alltogether simply because he has gone through 2 different illustrations of what he looks like and so what if Vader did not get redeemed in spirit he redeemed himself as a man atleast....
