Okay, so my local independent theater (http://nickelodeon.org) ran a 35mm print of the film as part of their Chinese film festival, and for free no less. The print was just a little dirty and splicey, but otherwise it was a nice, colorful print with clear sound. It had English narration by a British person. By the look of the English opening credits and ending title, I'm willing to bet this English version was made in the '60s not long after the film's original release. Possibly it was some sort of international version for foreign markets to use as a basis for their localized variants. I don't know how long the print was, but it definitely wasn't the heavily condensed version. It was probably somewhere in the ballpark of two hours, or something. For some reason the theater projected the film matted to 1.85:1, but it didn't really interfere most of the time and the credits weren't chopped off.

Now, I had never seen the film before this screening and was not entirely familiar with it, but I did know already about there being various versions and this restoration project.

If anybody has any questions they would like to ask me about the screening, I'll try to answer them.
