I'll just torrent the whole movie.  PM me if you want something.  I'll send a few of you the torrent just in case.  Can't promise I can seed all day, but I'll do it as often as possible.

It's way too bad to be usable after cropping, even in SD. But here's a quick crude mockup of how it could be made semi usable:

Thats a cheeky little trick mirroring the left and right but it works well enough.....

I have the sound clips and will be playing about with them later on I will make them more like the real thing hopefully Cheers D

Now one of my mottos is that I don't like to have to ask anyone for somthing I would not be prepared to do myself but I don't have the skill and I am sure there is an artist that might want to do this for fun anyway... So I have all the resources to do the emperor leaving corusant but there is nothing I can use for the imperial palace as ralph mcquarrie envisioned it.....

So does anyone want to have a go at a matte of this but I have some stipulation about the colourisation being Blues and darkly lit with night lights on in buildings /dusk nightfall the sky will have a lightning storm footage as a backdrop so do not worry too much for the sky. Think more along the lines of the tower of Barud-dur or draculas castle than coruscant as we knew it... It needs to look more gothic than techno city basically If anyone wants to have a go it will make the sequence complete

Thanks Angel.....This is pretty perfect apart from the luminous symbol which will be going....Where do I find this image original format or what is the file name for a search?

Its from a movie called Priest

You can take a preview of this shot in the trailer

I can imagine changing that cross with the imperial symbol and that blue monitor with something imperialish i guess.

Higher rez images can be taken from the movie or the HD trailers.

Do you think they basically ripped Ralph off or what I mean the resemblence between the 2 buildings is basically a carbon copy apart from that symbol but good thinking Angel for the swap of symbols.... And brilliant find!

Possibly but there arent many to remember that, or mention the similarities :)

Its rather funny to assume that the throne room is somewhere there (the light condition fits)

The movie have a couple more shots of this building i remember. The only bad(if you can count as bad) is the ash that raining all the time. I would leave it tho as artistic liberation :P

That looks very nice.  I'm interested to see how your efforts turn out, Ron.

So I PM'ed a few people with the torrent of the Interactive Board Game.  I'll try to seed when I can, but this computer is often not on.  Anyone who wants will need to wait patiently for a few days, but I'll make sure I spread it to those who want it.

I thought it was a still so this was a concern initially but as it's footage yeah why not if it's moving ash plumes no problem like coruscant techno city descends into to industrial hell I like it. :)

I know it is taking a while, but I hope to be able to get a sort of summary or interpretation of the vote up tonight.  I don't know what to do to get this project to shift from simply a focused ideas thread into an actual movie-making thread.  MrInsaneA is working on the rough edit, and hopefully that's progressing well.  But I'd really love to step back and let things go without feeling like a nag or anything.

I think what I'll do is this: With the summary of the two votes, I'll make general categories of what we've discussed as far as changes (for instance, a Vader arrival to DSII category).  I will list all the needed special effects changes under each category.  Then I will make this available on the other forum and here.  Hopefully the editors will be able to simply select a particular aspect to work on.  We can then keep tabs on what is currently under construction and what is completed...sort of a checklist.

Things like the board game footage could work if it was deliberately made to look like a lost VHS cut.

Honestly, if I got nothing visual out of that movie other than that walk down the hall, I believe it would be sufficient.  But if we were to go further, you're probably right that it would be best interpreted as "lost" footage.

I Tried to colour correct that Jap star tours original footage and it's no good or atleast I found it really hard to do... It's saturated with yellow yet even when you take that out it still looks wrong as you loose part of the red when doing so..... So I will now say that this footage is now unusable but I never did colour correction before until then... The resolutions not great either... But I'll keep my fingers crossed for that DVD you picked up D and hopefully this will be key to expanding some of the endor battle... Atleast across the DSII surface even through a cockpit window

I like the idea of using the deleted scene footage for Jejerrod and this footage for before Reaching out to luke It's a good idea if it's usable...

I think your somewhat right on counting what needs to be done.... so I will suggest a numbering system so say split the film into logical portions and then denote a second number for the task for example 1.3 might be dagobah bens ghost recoluration and 2.4 might be on tattooine at jabbas palace iron door. That way atleast you can see which portions would need the most work aswell as they can be easily brokendown and viewed and struck off the list too.

Unfortunatley it would be hard to quantify how much a 2 figure number would be to strike so then it would add a 3rd number by the technical editors for each consecutive shot to complete the task for instance task 2.4 is to have the Iron Door droid scan c3po and R2 at jabbas palace so this could be broken down as 2 effects shots and would translate as 2.4.1 and 2.4.2 respectivley.

If you want to go further a fourth number would be audio and music cues specific to shots with sfx and music or vocal editing so 2.4..1.1 sfx of the scan and 2.4.1.2 would be a new music sting say

I hope this would seem logical to list this way and it is expandable and trackable

Glad you like my ideas, Ron.  It's too bad the color correction isn't working out.  Like you said, I hope the DVD is worth it.  I agree that it could be useful for the Death Star surface in particular, and maybe a closeup of a Star Destroyer's underside.  And that's good thinking: a numbering system could make it easier for reference when the editors decide what portion to work on.

Another way the lower resolution stuff could work is as the basis of holograms.

The hologram effect could not only mask the difference but make a virtue of it by making it look more like some kind of broadcast glitch.

Author

Interesting thought...I'll have to ponder other ways some of this stuff could get incorporated.  We'd have a truly unique and amazing edit if we managed to find a use for so much alternate footage.

Maybe those Bothan spies have hidden cameras on the Death Star and transmit the details of the Emperor's visit to a base or ship in the form of holograms.

Things like the Star Tours footage could be holograms projected from the briefing room table during the battle.

i have a sequence partly inspired by your idea of a transmission Bingowings... And I have to do some work on it before putting it up here as a concept... It is a bit lacking in terms of there being more human elements in the sequence... But am planning to start on this today... and over the weekend...

Hopefuilly I will have it up soon.

Edit - Just found those human elements so It will be alot more plausible now

If you went with the camera idea Bobba fett could shoot it and use return of the ewok footage

Just to spitball some more ideas, I've been thinking of a different way to open the film that can incorporate the "Bothan spies" idea to some degree.
I've made a mock up of that opening here: http://vimeo.com/35740289
The idea for this being that we don't see the Bothans stealing the Death Star plans, but we do get an impression of the aftermath of that. Perhaps something like this video combined with an opening crawl like the one below could work for that:

"The Rebel Alliance has learnt that the GALACTIC EMPIRE is secretly constructing a second DEATH STAR, one even more powerful than the first. When completed this battle station will spell certain doom for the Alliance.

In a desperate bid to avert destruction Princess Leia, leading a band of Bothan commandoes, fought her way onto the Imperial facility on Had Abbadon to steal the Death Star plans. At a great cost of life, Leia and her team were able to escape and deliver the plans to the Alliance.

THE EMPEROR has dispatched his apprentice, DARTH VADER, to Had Abbadon to ensure Death Star is safely completed. However Vader is distracted by his quest to locate his son, Luke Skywalker..."

Using additional footage, I've started work on a scene between Vader and Boba Fett, the idea here being that we see Vader send out Fett to find Luke. This could add some tension to seeing Fett in Jabba's palace, his presence there now being part of Vader's plans to capture Luke.

Finally, this is just the way I think see these opening scenes could play out:

Opening Crawl.
Vader's Tie Fighter arrives on Had Abbadon.
Vader contacts Luke (on Dagobah) through the Force.
Luke senses Vader whilst building his Lightsaber, is called by R2 to Yoda's hut.
Luke goes to Yoda's deathbed, meets with Obi Wan.
Bobba Fett meets Vader on Had Abbadon, is sent after Luke.
Vader leaves for his Star Destroyer, Fett heads to Tattooine.
Vader's Star Destroyer arrives at the Death Star.
Luke arrives at Tattooine; "I've a promise to keep to an old friend".
R2 and C3PO arrive at Jabba's Palace.

PS.
I've had a quick flick through the Dark Empire audio, only a few Billy Dee lines and probably not of much use. To quickly paraphrase the lines, so far I've found:
"I don't think our field weapons are doing much against those huge Imperial Walkers", "Get Down!", "If we tell the Imperials that, maybe they'll break for lunch", "Luke's growing strong. Very strong. I've not seen anyone like that since... Vader", "You okay Wedge?", "Han Solo; you old space pirate.. what are you doing here?".

Thanks for listening to DE for us.  Even just one or two lines would make it worth it.  Perhaps we can use, "You okay, Wedge?" and maybe somehow, "Han Solo; you old space pirate."

The Bothan spies idea is something we've been trying to figure out, but we haven't concluded anything yet.  We're still working on it, and you've got an interesting idea to add to the collection.

@Ronster, a lot of the things we disagreed on in the beginning were things I didn't feel were realistic or possible.  But your rough concept edits may be proving me wrong.  I look forward to seeing your transmission clip :)  Good thinking about maybe using Boba Fett in that regard as well.

At Bingo, that is a good potential use for these other scenes, using them as holograms and thus taking advantage of their quality.  Good idea.

@Angel, that is a hilarious commercial, and I had the sound off because only my 2 year old and I are awake.  I can only imagine how funny it is with sound.  I'll have to watch it again later :D

New plan:

Everything just takes too darn long.  What I'm doing is borrowing the googledoc used to describe the various changes throughout the movie's numerous releases.  I'm deleting any extraneous stuff and only keeping the GOUT and 2004 DVD (and maybe the 2011 BD) details.  In the column describing the changes, I will note all the desired changes we have pretty firmly decided on.  I will also include links to audio, video, and pictures to best capture ideas.  I will upload it and make it available to editing by the team of editors, who can then annotate what they're working on and what is completed.  Editors, what do you think of this plan?  Will this give you guys appropriate direction?

I am disappointed to hear that for both our sakes.  I know you've been working hard on it, and I was looking forward to seeing it.  Very sorry, but hang in there.  What happened?  Did you truly lose everything, or just the most recent changes without saving?
