Imagine an avalanche of snow turning into rocks. These rocks get under attack by the supernatural flying pillow cases. They swim into the safe refuge of a sea cave. For whatever reason, in the cave there's shiny speakers it's likely that they don't work. There's also a toe and a book. The magic sentient rocks open the book seeing the locket. They see the Penumbra pic. In the Penumbra video game you need Morse code at a certain point to open a gate. It's symbolism that the locket is the key to opening the end of the story. The symbolism within the story is that because of that locket the magic sentient rocks unlock a gate to safety. Thus happy ending
