In the comic book adaptation there was a small Rebel outpost (which possibly tended to the generator station) which is destroyed by the probe droid to cover it's tracks, the loss was put down to a Wampa attack.

I thought it was a good idea when I was ten but without the Wampa sub-plot the effect would possibly be to bring more attention to itself.

It never made the movie so I guess it was dis-reguarded as irrelevant .... Looks like they had enough problems just doing the battle footage without adding anymore in.... The fact the probe discovers the shield was enough to convey the message and lead to the invasion.

It just fell over on the Invasion, I never thought about it that much until I pulled the footage apart.... Do you think it would help to have distinguishing marks on which group of AT-AT's you were looking at? So you would know where you are in the battle somewhat because it is all snow and blue sky....

Actually this WAS in the script but was cut. It occurs as the probe droid find the shield generator but then detects a Rebel sensor Station 38 (like the ones that Luke and Han were putting out at the beginning of the movie, which you don't see... lol "sensors are in place I'm going back") and the probe ends up destroying it. So when the scene cuts to the interior of Echo Base where there guy says "Sensors have pick up something Zone 12, moving east" there was suppose to be some smoking ruin of a sensor station as the probe was masking it's trail unsuccessfully... Here it is from the ESB script:

 HAN

It isn't friendly, whatever it is.
Come on, Chewie, let's check it out.

				RIEEKAN
Send Rogues Ten and Eleven to
		station three-eight.

EXT. HOTH - SNOW PLAIN - DAY

The dark probe robot moves past the smoldering ruins of station three-
eight and down a ridge toward the Rebel base. It raises a large
antenna from the top of its head and begins to send out a piercing
signal.

The probe droid has spotted Chewbacca who, not thirty feet away, has
popped his head over a snow bank. Instantly, the probe robot swings
around, its deadly ray ready to fire. But before it can get a shot
off, it is hit from behind by a laser bolt, and explodes in a million
pieces.

           Ca Rogues

The impossible is what Rogues do best...

I must confess to be a bit surprised and much disappointed that it turned out to be Angel I suspected someone else, but then in the internet world someone else so frequently turns out to be someone the same so I can't help but think he will return in some other incarnation.

Like the similarly disappointing Darth Venal he is a talented person with great ideas which could have been and may have been of great assistance to the people on here.

Silly bugger.

There was also a small section, that was cut out of the final movie, heard over the comlink that explains why Han knew it wasn't friendly:

HAN - Then it's not one of those creatures.

LEIA - Could it be one of ours? A speeder?

SENSOR CONTROLLER -I'm getting no signal. Wait, something very weak.

Threepio steps up to the control panel and listens to the strange signal intensely.

THREEPIO - I must say, sir, I'm fluent in over six million forms of communication, but this is something new... must be
in code or...

A new VOICE comes over the com-link.

TROOPER VOICE - This is station five and we have your object on our scopes... It's just over the ridge, we should have visual
contact in about... What the?... Oh no!

The transmission ends in static.

HAN - Whatever it is, it isn't friendly. I'm going to have a look. Come on, Chewie.

You know that might work if it wasn't for the music cues.

It would give the scene where Han and Chewie take it out a bit more added tension if it has already claimed a kill.

I want to say that whoever yesterday's troll under the bridge truly was, I honestly don't believe it was Angel.  Maybe I'm wrong, but his spelling mistakes were not of the nature of Angel's, and his English grammar was far better, even if not quite native English.  I don't know whatever bad interactions may have taken place before, but I truly don't believe he would do that here.  I think Bingo's hunch felt at least closer to correct, though it may not be true either.

A while ago Ady posted a comparison shot between the Bluray and.......DVD maybe? of the rebels on Hoth fleeing from the AT-ATs showing how blurry the new transfer is.  Does anybody have a link to that pic?  Thankee!

I believe this was the picture you're referring to, it wasn't the dvd version, but a scan of an actual film cell vs the blu ray.  Pretty startling.

Hmmm, getting an error.  Thanks for taking the time to post it, though!

Being VERY new to these forums, and not knowing many of the long time posters here, it did seem to me that it was someone who wanted to be involved in this project that wasn't invited in lol. He didn't make a lot of since with his ramblings thats for sure.

As for hate mail on Ady, what is wrong with people?!? It's just like the same old debate of Lucas's special edition to original versions. No one is coming to your houses & at gunpoint taking your DVD, BLU RAY or even old VHS copies of Star Wars & replacing them with his. All of us fans own the officially released versions of the films. I for one on occasion like mix it up and watch a different version then the last time I watched. If you like Star Wars the way it is on whatever format that suits you, DON'T WATCH SOMEONE ELSE'S EDIT!

I knew nothing of Adywan but had heard of this REVISITED DVD that was out there for years before I found a copy. So Im far from a worshiper. But I gotta say it was, for me, an amazing experience and I am greatly appreciative of all Ady & all who put so much time & love into this project. I also appreciate anyone here who helps or even points out things that may have been overlooked by Ady.

On a last note, (and slightly off topic, sorry) I am NOT a Lucas basher at all. He gave us something that totally changed our lives as kids in a wonderful and amazing way. I have no problems with his tweaks & addins either. That doesn't mean that they all were great in my eyes, but it's his right to edit & change as much as it is Ady's or anyone else who feels the need to make an edit. I find it sad that he's seemingly so upset by people who bashed the last 3 movies or the BLU RAY set that he is done with considering more SW movies. The prequels had so much to live up to that it was easy for people to be offended by certain things. But a new series, with Mark Hamill as Luke in a "ANH OBIWAN" kinda role would be heavenly!

Yeah Monroville & Darth_Neznarf, the foot could be made larger and create more damage, I just used Savmagoett's calculation as a rough guide for how much to scale it up.....It's up to Ady now If he thinks its worth it

I like it. I know its not anywhere near finished but i see you came across the same problem i did when i was attempting it; the foot on screen right just disappears into nowhere. The problem with making things bigger is making the surrounding things react correctly with them. If you want to continue with that shot Jaitea then i would be more than happy to use it if that's ok, full credit going to you of course.

There is something i have been meaning to ask you Jaitea, are you any good with creating CG terrain? There is still a huge problem i haven't been able to overcome and its the Hoth battle cockpit shots. The AT-AT's need replacing especially when there is not only the incorrect number of AT-AT's seen but also that some of them are jumping all over the place, not correctly joined on the surface and always standing still. Now a few years back someone was working on new terrain that i could use, but then just disappeared and stopped answering my emails. I really do still need something like this done. Here is one of his tests:

Only an Idea but could you use google earth render a run along some ice at low level and speed it up and adjust the scenery and sky. like to be more parallax

or get somone to do a terragen hoth...

Is this something that happens just on the special edition version? i haven't got the DVD/Blu-Ray versions of the audio loaded up in my editing program because i am using the 1980 theatrical audio as a temp track, and the music seems fine on that. I'll check the Blu-Ray audio as this could be down to the added shots of the wampas screwing things up. I'll get back to you soon about this.

EDIT: Just found a video of the SE version of the Wampa scene and yes you are right. Damn they really screwed up the musical cues for the SE by adding extra stuff. But don't worry, the scene will be returned to its original editing pace and i won't be using the SE mix for this scene, so the music will have it's cues where they were originally intended.

I think that could be it.

The music cues are thrown by the inclusion of the SE Wampa shots.

Sadly a whole generation are now more familiar the ambiance of the SEs rather than the original versions.
