I finally seem to have found a way to increase saturation in Premiere without introducing those artefacts, so if you find a scene or shot that you think could use a saturation boost, feel free to point it out :-)

Harmy I've been floating around these forums for over 8 years now and it is only now after watching the training comparison scene you just posted that I'm finally excited about Star Wars again.  Thank you for that.  Keep up the good work.

That's some sexy lightsaber action!

Is the remote's laser really supposed to be completely yellow? I thought it was red with a yellow core.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

wow

if the whole movie is as good as that lightsaber sequence i'd be willing to wait until 2013 if necessary.

star wars has never looked this pleasing to the eye since the original theatrical release.

Where's my damn medal?

I'm sure if Harmy has changed the laser, he's done the research

Oh, right, I see. I wonder if the JSC has the same kind of lens distortion that causes the GOUT to be very very difficult to overlay over the SE.

Sorry, but can you elaborate on this a bit?

Star Wars was filmed on 35mm anamorphic. Basically, a lens "squeezes" a widescreen image onto a square surface on the film, and then this squeezed image is stretched out again when run through a projector with an anamorphic lens.

As you can imagine, this can create a lot of anomalies when you stretch an image like this, and since the BR was mastered with modern equipment, they were able to create a very good looking stretched image. The GOUT is from the early ninties, and, while I'm not entirely sure of the video mastering technology they possessed at the time, I am positive that high quality anamorphic widescreen stretches could not be obtained with the same kind of accuracy.

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

100% Yellow my friend. Here is a screenshot taken from a DVD of the Star Wars LD "The Definitive Collection"

Not the fairest comparison, since they are both compressed screenshots, but still....wow.

Before someone else says it ;)

The color of that thing in the hallway (Is that a light?) looks more green on the LD than on the DE 2. Dunno how accurate the LD is though

Author

Not to nitpick, but if we are following the colors of the LD, that lightsaber is much too saturated.

Looking good.

The stars look more like in the GOUT now but brighter. Good! And the colors look great.

I decided to redo this one from scratch. In v1.0 the whole shot was just an upscale of Ady's revisited, which brought three problems with it:

A) It was just an upscale

B) It had Ady's redone laser bolt

C) It was heavily cropped.

Wow.  I can't begin to say how excited I am to watch this in high definition.  Am I correct that there will first be an AVCHD, followed by a BD?

It’s really sad when the “creative minds” behind something we hold dear are also guilty of its destruction.

Well, I'm still not 100% decided on the BD. I'll only release it if I can make a really cool BD with menus and stuff. But there will definitely be an MKV which should be comparable in quality to a BD25.

Yeah they're definitely supposed to be green. I found the image overall too yellow but some shots did look nice. The lightsaber does bother me though, in this scene I always remember the blade being basically white with maybe a hint of cyan here or there but never it being consistent.

MKV will be excellent for all of us who watch all their movies from external discs connected to their HDTVs :-)

Just don't forget to add the czech dub to it too :-)

Harmy, I just watched your new training scene test with the adjusted lightsaber hue and something seemed "off" to me in regard to the mid tone levels and skin-tones. i compared it to the WP and indeed there is a significant difference in the overall color/brightness.  As you can see below, Han's skin-tone looks fine in the WP, but looks rather pale and washed out in the training scene.

To get a better idea of the difference, here is a rollover comparison: http://cobrakai.byethost22.com/

Great work Harmy.  Is light blue the right color for the monitor behind him?
