3D STAR WARS for the masses...has ARRIVED! — Page 20

You're supposed to cross your eyes, and concentrate on the image in the middle. I need no mirror. ;)

That doesn't work far as well, the image gets optically smaller when you do that. And also it strains the eyes quite a bit.

When Starlog magazine instructed how to do it for their 3D issue back in the 80's, they claimed it actually builds eye strength. I have goofy eyesight to begin with.

Yeah, it build eye strength because it strains the eyes. It's like exercise - when you work out, your muscles get stronger but after the exercise they hurt.

Keep in mind that converting CGI films like Toy Story and Shrek are relatively easy, since the studios still have all the information used to render the CGI, so they just re-render the film with a left and right view, so you get true 3D.

Actually the first three Shrek movies were unable to be re-rendered in 3D and had to be post-converted like any 2D live action film.  The result is fairly good and better than most live action films, but it's still got some of the cardboard cutout moments you mention.  Hoodwinked Too! is another CG animated film that is only in 3D through the use of this same type of conversion.

I hope that there are worthwile moments to the Star Wars 3D conversion(s) and from viewing the latest batch of superhero movies in 3D I can definitely say that there's a nice little touch that 3D can add to these high budget popcorn flicks, even with the moments of obvious cutting and pasting to achieve the 3D effect... nothing's been as bad as Clash of the Titans lately.  I must say, however, that I've been much more thoroughly impressed by the native 3D films every time (with Fright Night 3D being my most recent favorite) and I'm sure that's a trend that will continue.

And I haven't noticed it mentioned here, but the 3D Phantom Menace teaser is on YouTube in actual 3D in the side-by-side format (also viewable in anaglyph), but it's in Russian... search accordingly!

PS:  Your girlfriend owns BATB in 3D?  Fine, I'll believe that... at least I'm man enough to admit to owning BATB in 3D. ;)  I even bought it on release day with TLK, no regrets!

Okay I admit it - I'm a classic Disney fan! To be honest, I've been buying the classic Disney films for several years for my girlfriend. It started out as a Christmas gift one year and since then I've been getting her the newer Blu-Rays as they're released. She owns a pretty nice collection by now. But I admit I love the classic stuff myself. The Blu-Rays really do look amazing.

Thanks for telling me about the first 3 Shrek films being converted. I wasn't aware of that. I just assumed all the animated films were being re-rendered. I guess I can't just assume that.

Kind of a ripoff that the Shrek 3D theme park movie isn't on the Blu Rays. It was released on DVD as a two pack with the first movie at one point.

The merchandising behemoth for PM 3D is beginning to stir...

Doesn't that sithburger look yummy!

dark vader burger...dyed black?  you know, when people pointed out the excessive merchandising, LFL would spit out the talking point: "look, for every license we issue, we turn away another 10".   this is not helping.

where have you gone, awesomely cool collectible burger king glasses :(

it truly is the once-proud saga formerly known as star wars.

darth maul and lightsabre yoda - LFL sure knows what the popular parts of the PT was.   i think darth maul has just as many lines of dialog in the commercial as he did in TPM.  where's jar jar?  where's annie's pod racer?

click here if lack of OOT got you down

Not quite as funny as those Lava Pop Tarts when ROTS came out.

Because breakfast and a Anakin bursting into flame go together. ;)

I saw TPM3D trailer over Christmas (when I watched Hugo) and it really looked unconvincing.

I can't imagine any circumstance that would drive me to go to a theater and pay the ridiculous large amount charged for 3D films to see a film I didn't like much, made less possible to visibly register.

The 3D trailer may not be a good representation of the final product but why put an unrepresentative trailer out for something you want to pull people in to see?

Some people are into pain and suffering? ;)

I have a notion of downloading the Phantom Menace Rifftrax, and getting a cheapo MP3 player to take to a late night showing.

Probably the same guys who saw it again and again and again... back in '99.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

That would be me.  4xAgain  See the 3D at least once, if there's something i'd like to verify on the technological side could see it twice.  Haven't heard any talk of lines forming.

The franchises I get nerdy about are so obscure that not even most nerds know about them.

Probably lots of people, especially kids. Lucas sees the 3-D craze winding down and wants to take advantage of it. Make no mistake, this will do gangbusters business and be another nail in the OOT's coffin. I'm not paying for it; hats for sure, but I'm sure tons and tons and tons and tons of people will.
