Harmy, it's perfect! Excelent color/brightness and hue adjustment. Great.

Thanks guys :-)
Here's another one for you:
This is as far as I'm willing to go. I had to go back to the shot's project file and rerender anyway, because there was some funky stuff going on with 3PO's head when the target first passes over it, so I figured what the hell and added a bit of saturation to the sabre.
That looks really great
Brilliant job on the lightsaber and the adjusted Ben Kenobi shot. They're utterly outstanding. Bravo, Harmy!
Hey Harmy, out of sheer curiosity will you also be releasing a 25gb version with a lossless audio codec and better video compression for those with BD burners?
There will likely be a BD25 version with lossless audio, yes. But it will come out later than the AVCHD and MKV because I'd like to make it the real deal with menus and everything.
I'm using that as an excuse to finally buy a BD burner.
YES!
*Finger anxiously hovers over the download button*
Will it be announced here when v2 is ready, or TehParadox, or both?
It’s really sad when the “creative minds” behind something we hold dear are also guilty of its destruction.
I'm sure it'll be announced here as well...
And, btw, the latest work on the lightsabre practice scene and *especially* the Ben and Luke in the Dune Sea scene are brilliant. I dunno how enamoured I am of the new sunset, mostly because I'm just not used to it. But if that's how it looked in 1977 then so be it; I definitely like the atmospheric distortion and don't really care about the slightly blurred horizon line 'round the homestead
“I find your lack of faith disturbing.”
And yeah, the whole lightsabre core/glow discussion is probably the geekiest stuff I've seen in the long history of this site, and thas sayin alot. kudos!
“I find your lack of faith disturbing.”
Looking great Harmy!

This project is going to be the highlight of 2012. Amazing work Harmy.

The still looks EXCELLENT ! When can we see it in motion ? :-)

As soon as I'm done with the whole scene I'll post a side by side comparison with the SE.
This may be why despecialization has never been attempted before: who's colors are truest? ;-)
And should we be fixing the lightsaber colors when they've pretty much always been inconsistent?

It'll still be slightly inconsistent, that's why I said that was as far as I was willing to go. I have a reference, which makes me certain that this is the right colour in that shot.
Hey Harmy,
I finally finished looking at the workprint. Things are looking great. Since the colors have been discussed and addressed, I won't go into that. I had a few other comments though:
30:54 - The sky around Ben's hut looks pixelated (especially on the right side), as if it was brightened too much.
41:42 - The "cutout" where the ronto used to be in the background is now seamless. Great job!
48:41 - The new fade (where the Jabba scene used to be) looks great!
Once again, thanks for doing this, Harmy!
You know of the rebellion against the Empire?
First of all, great job, your 'despecialized' version looks fantastic, Harmy.
Do you plan to publish your final 2.0 version with hard coded english subtitles or would it maybe possible to release it with unfixed subs?
You know, it's funny, because for all the talk about Luke's lightsabre being too green/cyan in the wide shot, no one has pointed out the real colour flaw of the image, which is that the pinkness of the creatures on the game table really stands out and looks kind of nasty.
I'm just sayin' . . .
You're right, now that the lightsaber has been perfected, there's still a lot of color flaws in that scene. 3PO's highlights still have too much red, there's way too much blue in the whole frame (excepting the lightsaber), and as you pointed out, the chess pieces are dramatically oversaturated in the '04/'11, even compared to the '97 SE.
Harmy's probably sick of working on this scene, maybe some other time he could come back around to that stuff.
With mverta's recent revelations about how warm the original color timing was, Harmy may potentially have to do color fixes to every single shot in the movie....
I am doing colour fixes to every single shot in the movie. And I think that shot looks fine, not perfect but fine and perfect can not be achieved, so I'm fine with fine ;-)

Signed up for the wait.
sorry i haven't been able to get you those scenes with too much brightness. i have been busy. it's not that big of a deal any way.
also while i think it is cool you are taking color correction requests I think you should be careful. if you take too many the end result may feel like a patch work quilt. it looks like you are basing some of the colors off of mike vertas sample. which may or may not have the same color timing as the gout which you are basing the rest off of. I think for the most part you should try and base the colors off of as few sources as possible to maintain consistency.
Where's my damn medal?
I agree to some extent, but I think we should lean in the direction of the Mike Verta frames - they are (afaik) IB Tech prints of SW - the definitive source, period.
Don't worry, I've always been using multiple sources for colour but one scene is always based on one source, so using more sources shouldn't create jarring inconsistencies between shots. And there never was any over-all colour consistency to STAR WARS, or so Mike Verta says and I believe him.
