PROMETHEUS was (Alien 0?) NOW NO LONGER SPOILER FREE. — Page 6

I'm looking very forward to seeing this in theatres opening weekend, however I'd be lying if I said I wasn't feeling some trepidation at the prospect of Scott revisiting the Alien franchise.  When I consider the track record of other films whose creators had sequels/prequels made after a significant lapse of time (Star Wars, Indiana Jones), I'm a little worried about the quality of the pending product.

More than anything, I hope Prometheus doesn't shrink the universe the way the Star Wars prequels did by explaining everything and having too much interrelatedness.  Part of what I love about Alien is the sense of mystery, happenstance, and realism that comes from finding the derelict spacecraft.  What is this ship?  Who were these beings? What happened here?  I love the fact that such questions go unanswered because they're beyond the scope of the film.

Isn't it supposed to be a whole different take? I could of swore that Ridley Scott said that it wasn't a sequel or prequel to Aliens but it's own movie.

Anyways I want to see this movie so bad. It just looks so darn promising that I'd be stupid not to see it.

The thing that has me worried is that we'll be watching the same basic cast of characters - including a potentially untrustworthy android.

It would be a bit strange if the xenomorphs are not referenced in any way shape or form. It might even feel awkward if they go out of their way to keep the Xenomorph race out of the plot.

We know that the film involves at least humanoid aliens and locations at least reminiscent of the original film, both are presented in the trailer.

The trailer shows the large ship crashing but even if it's not the derelict from Lv-426, the design is basically the same as the environment where we first encountered eggs / facehuggers.

The production design in this shot looks more like "Aliens" then "Alien".

There was a garage full of vehicles of that *elk on the Nostromo but because of the terrain of the planet in the first film they were just background details to Parker and Lambert's demise.

The human tech seems to be more Jean Giraud than Ron Cobb this time.

It's definitely a prequel. Sir Ridley said that comment about it not being one BEFORE Damon Lindelof of LOST came on board to work with the script (not too enthusiastic about that).

We'll probably find out the Space Jockey is a cork that keeps evil from escaping into the galaxy...

So, this isn't a prequel to Alien that also is a prequel to Alien? I'm so confused. Either way, I'm really excited for this.

The way I see it, a prequel is specifically designed to set up the events in the films it's, uh, prequelling. I could be wrong, but this is just a movie set in the same universe, before the events of Alien, but has nothing to do with the Nostromo or xenomorphs.

And yet, it seems like we see the crash of the Derelict, which I thought was as a result of an infestation of xenomorphs, so maybe I don't know what the heck I'm talking about. :/

So, in other words, it takes place before Alien, however it has little to do with the alien?

Gotcha.

Yeah. It's supposedly about the "space jockey" race of aliens, and how they are connected with the origin of humanity.

I found some discussion on imdb about a script leak that occurred a month or two before the trailer came out.

Some say it's fake, others say it's accurate.

Don't click if you don't want to risk spoilers. I briefly browsed this and it does seem plausible.

Again, beware potential heavy spoilers.

To this day, I've not seen any of the sequels, nor will I ever.
Why am I not surprised? ;-)

I like the "music" in the trailer - very reminiscent (almost identical actually) of that used in the original trailer for Alien.

I will assume the movie sucks, as I do with all movies now. I'm especially unenthusiastic about an apparent scene where people are running from what appears to be The Derelict crashing onto the planet. Got to get those teenagers in the seats I guess.

Here's a look at the new 'International' poster which has been released now (at bottom), which is slightly different to the previous 2 versions -

Notice how the region around the running figure looks like the Alien poster's cracked egg?

Notice how the running figure is positioned over the letters E and T?

Although it's not actual footage from the movie, that's a very interesting viral.

I've seen it reported that it was filmed by Ridley Scott's son, rather than Ridley himself.
