I'm looking very forward to seeing this in theatres opening weekend, however I'd be lying if I said I wasn't feeling some trepidation at the prospect of Scott revisiting the Alien franchise. When I consider the track record of other films whose creators had sequels/prequels made after a significant lapse of time (Star Wars, Indiana Jones), I'm a little worried about the quality of the pending product.
More than anything, I hope Prometheus doesn't shrink the universe the way the Star Wars prequels did by explaining everything and having too much interrelatedness. Part of what I love about Alien is the sense of mystery, happenstance, and realism that comes from finding the derelict spacecraft. What is this ship? Who were these beings? What happened here? I love the fact that such questions go unanswered because they're beyond the scope of the film.
