Star Wars Fan Films

I need some help for anyone that has seen the fan films of star wars?

I like stuff that expands the Star wars universe, is in sync with the storyline, and is not catoony or a satire. I am curious to know what of these films have you guys seen and what is your assessment of them if some of the films are like some of the qulaity books out there, I might be interested in attaining them. Again some people may like the cartoons, fan documentaries, or satirical versions of star wars, but I am more interested in extensions of the movies we have from GL. Any help is appreciated.

I have seen George Lucas in Love from your third link, but it's a spoof. Damn good spoof, but spoof all the same. If you do have time and are in the mood, I highly recommend it. Has the girl who played the daughter in Mrs. Doubtfire costarring in it.

I have also seen Legacy of the Jedi, Pink Five, and Troops from the fourth link. All are good in their own rights, but, again, all are spoofs.

If you're looking for serious stuff strictly, avoid those four. There are several others you can tell are spoofs just from their titles.

Frankly, the only good non-canon Star Wars film is "Troops"...

The "serious" fan films are usually too poor and amateurish to be of any enjoyment, and the "parodies" are dull and unfunny (especially the "Thumb Wars" and the animated porn flick)

I haven't seen too many "serious" fan films that are very good. Duality and The Dark Redemption come to mind, but I don't think they're that good. But entertaining nonetheless.

It's not all that serious, but I do like Brains and Steel. It's a good take on the Princess Bride if you've ever seen that.

I know you're not interested in spoofs, but as others have mentioned, Troops is pretty good. I also really like T'bone's Silent but Deadly series.

I have seen Art of the Saber and it was a pretty decent film. Couldn't find it in any of those links up there, though. Do check it out if for no other reason than the fight choreography.

Art of the Saber is at theforce.net. I watched it and it's a pretty good fight sequence. Although, I personally think the whole double-bladed-lightsaber-that-inevitably-gets-cut-in-half is played out.

IMHO -

I think that the fanfilm BOUNTY TRAIL is one of the best!

It's a COMIC-BOOK style fanfilm and should be watched after reading a Star Wars book or comic - the director Justin Dix did a wonderful job with this film and I hope he does more!

I converted it to DVD a LONG time ago just to watch over and over

Just watched Bounty Trail, Rikter. And it is good. However, I hate the narrator's voice at the beginning and end of the comic book. Annoyed the piss out of me. But I did like the melding of live action and comic art. It was very well done.

not sure if anybody knows this , but Justin Dix the director of bounty trail, actually operates R2-D2 in the prequals, and he also had a brief cameo in the Coruscant nightclub scene in Attack of the clones.

Well that would explain why his costumes kicked such ass in Bounty Trail. He had access to the wardrobe department.

I'm pretty sure Bounty Trails was made before Justin started work on the prequals, Justins a fairly prominent member of the Australian Star Wars Fan club in Melbourne and I believe the costumes belonged to other members of the club who helped make the film.

Broken Allegiance was excellent, Zutroy. A very worthwhile download for anyone out there looking.

And that was one good lookin' female Dark Jedi.

A good comedy one is Duel of the Fakes ... be sure to check out the "Special Edition" version (it has rotoscoped lightsabers ... the original is just plastic ones).

It's actually a sequel of PA Wars which isn't quite as good, but still funny.

The humorous fan-films are usually pretty good, it's the serious ones that tend to fall flat.

I do recommend "Knightquest" though, which takes place a few days before ANH, and chronicles Vader's hunt for one the last Jedi Masters and his two apprentices. The story, acting, and effects are all pretty good, and the guy who voices Vader does an EXCELLENT job.
