Since my family adheres to cultic lies True Christianity, Christmas isn't observed in my household. I did buy myself the eighth season of The Simpsons on DVD, though, so it's almost all good.

I don't understand, you say your family adheres to True Christianity, yet they won't celebrate the birth of Christ?

*sigh*  now, if I had said this in reference to the Islam or Jewish religion, what would the reaction have been?  Lets say a celebrity said this about Islam or the Jewish religion, what would the reaction have been?  I'm going to bet that he'd/she'd be labeled a bigot.   Why is it ok to insult my religion, when it isn't to do the same to the others?  DuracellEnergizer, was it really necessary to use those words?

I have no problem with someone who doesn't believe in Christ, but I do have a problem with people insulting my religion.

I'm sure he thinks that Judaism and Islam are also a bunch of phoney baloney (as do I).

this would not surprise me.

This is such a typical Christian reaction to any and all criticism.

if you say so.

Atheist don't rip on Christianity and then think that Islamic and Jewish beliefs are real.

never said they did.   My point is that they respect the Islamic and the Jewish faith more than they do the Christian faith.   I hardly ever hear comedians make fun of Jews or Muslims, but I hear them make jokes about Christianity all the time.

The point you are trying to make (I believe) is that only Christians get ripped on.

no, my point is that is more acceptable to rip Christians than it is Jews or Muslims.

Most atheists/agnostics in this country are either raised in a Christian home or at least have Christianity thrown in their face most of their lives.

I am sure that can be a problem.  My sympathies.

walkingdork said:

The US is a mostly Christian country AND NOT the persecuted minority you and others would like to believe you are.

I never said Christianity was a persecuted minority.

I don't have Muslims or Jews knocking on my door and trying to convert me.

I don't do that myself and neither is my church into that.  Normally it is easy to get them to go away.   I've had people knock on my door and have easily gotten them to go away.

There aren't pushy Muslims or Jews standing in front of the local college and all but forcing students to take a tiny copy of the Bible.

again not something I  or my church do.   I don't believe they really force you to take it.

I don't have Muslim or Jewish friends telling me I live in sin and trying to talk me into going church every Sunday (and it should be noted that I do have Muslim and Jewish friends.

I don't talk that way to non believers either.  But if you did ask your Muslim and Jewish friends straight out, they would agree that you are living in sin and should attend services at synagogue/mosque.

walkingdork said:

We stick up for Muslims because in this country they are the minority and there are "bigots"who hate Muslims and try to stifle Muslim culture and growth in this country (just watch Fox News).

I agree with you, the bigots should be fought.

Nobody would lose there mind if Christians tried to build a church near the WTC. In fact there is a huge cross where the WTC used to be. But Muslims want to take over an old Men's Warehouse (or was it a Burlington Coat Factory?) and oh no! the boogeyman is taking over and insulting 9/11 victims.

I agree that the fuss over the mosque near WTC was silly.   They have every right to build a mosque there.

Let's stop pretending that Christians have it worst in this country because that is absolutely ridiculous.

I never said they had it worse.  I agree they do not have it worse.   In fact they have it much better.  But still, there is a double standard.   It is politically incorrect to make fun of the Jewish or Muslim religion, yet it is perfectly ok to make fun of the Christian religion.   What we should stop pretending that is prejudice and bigotry against Christianity doesn't exist.  It does exist.  It is nowhere near as bad as the bigotry against other religions, but it does exist.

and you don't think that could make some atheists prejudice/bigoted against Christianity?  I think it could and has.

btw, just because I consider myself a Christian, does not mean that I am like Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson.  Their brand of Christianity is not my brand.
