And to go down the CG route, the foot would have to be so well rendered and have the movement match 100% to give it natural looking motion when interacting with the original speeder.
And you only have to look at the speeder crash in the chase scene at the beginning of AOTC to see just how fake something like this can look.
So, no i won't be doing it. But if someone was to prove that this thing can look 100% realistic with Cg then i'm willing to change my mind
Isnt the AT-AT model you made good enough for replicating the step with bigger proportions? I think if handled with care it can support good detail for a close up.
The Crash in AOTC is fake indeed but its not the best example of good collision and CG in films :)
Also something else i wanted to bring:
Cause of the stop motion effect, all the snow that has been thrown away when the AT-ATs are walking look like mud. The snow seems stuck down like it has glue.
I wanted to suggest if possible adding some snow dust each time we see the walkers creating that mud like effect.
(the mockup is exaggerated just to stylise the effect)
(lol anyone else noticed that this shot is seen twice? one with the wire run and once before. No idea why the quality differs so much. any ideas of making one from both different?)
Sure A machine that big could have more intense interactions with its surroundings
Just something i had in mind just in case you want to consider this concept..
