Star Wars BluRays vs. DVDs - Which make the films look better?

I'm curious, now that the shock of the clarity of the blurays has worn off. Which versions of the films actually look better? Most likely your watching the DVDs upconverted anyways. Which ones blend the effects better, and have a better feel to them?

For me...

Audio Quality on the Blurays wins out every time... RotJ is hard with the NO though.

Video

Ep 1: Pretty even, BR a bit better, but inconsistant. DVD a bit worse, but consistant.

Ep 2: DVD. Not really feelin the teal shift, and I think that the clarity of the BR reveals some of the CGI blending issues.

Ep 3: BR looks amazing. No comparison.

EP 4: I prefer the DVD. It helped blend some of the over the top CGI in better. The BR felt inconsistant, with some scenes looking great and others definitely showing age.

Ep 5: BR for clarity. Not a big difference.

Ep 6: BR for clarity. Not a big difference.

Preferred Saga:
1,2: Numeraljoker extended
3: L8wrtr
4,6-9: Hal9000
5: Adywan

Not possible. Despite the DNR on many shots, the Blu-ray version of TPM is miles better than the DVD (which while great for it's time, it's the worst transfers of the saga we have on DVD). Not to mention that we get the full frame for the first time on an home video format.

I lost touch of the whole BluRay details after they announced there was no OOT included.   Are you saying they didn't do a whole new restoration and just took the DVD's and converted them to 1080i for the Bluray Set?

If so, that is pretty lazy on Lucasfilm.

I think he's saying that people who are watching the DVDs are watching them upconverted.

There is no lingerie in space…

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Yep. Most players do a pretty decent job of it too :)

Honestly, when I watch the BR of Ep 1, I feel like I have to constantly mess with my tv settings. Every time I tweak it right for one scene, the next looks bad with the same settings. Drives me nuts.

On a related note, Ebay prices for the DVD's are going up, and people are paying a lot more than would be expected now that the Blu Rays are out.

It's not just the GOUT sets, either. Prequels and even the full frame versions are getting high bids lately.

That's strange- maybe people mistakenly think the GOUT is included will all the DVD sets? Or, maybe they feel they the level of change in OT 2.1 DVD is preferable to 2.2 blu-ray (or whatever number they're up to now).

Amazon possibly has cheaper prices. You can get the WS of AOTC in Used Good condition for $3.93.

Don't forget though the 2004 box set includes the bonus disc and that's possibly why some people are buying that.

Settings for what? I saw nothing wrong with the colour of TPM or RotS. AotC has that awful green teal. I'm considering doing a preservation for AotC when I have the time.

The franchises I get nerdy about are so obscure that not even most nerds know about them.
