Happy smile.
I really like the idea of him being the only one there, but it makes more sense for him to bring help. You could establish somehow that this is the best way, but I'm not sure of what way to do that.

Damn...
If Mace simply doesn't want to waste a moment in arresting Palpatine, he would likely simply rush over there alone. If his hurry is well-conveyed, I think it's easily passable.
Or maybe play up that he's going there to execute him and he doesn't want witnesses? Either way works.
If you are into the idea of portraying Mace as the Snape character to Anakin, I wonder if there would be a way to make it look like HE was the one turning to the darkside?
I like the execution idea! Somebody just brought up the other day that Anakin felt guilt over killing Dooku unarmed, and seeing Mace about to do the same thing would be something of a real important moment for him. But after all these years of seeing this movie, that never occurred to me. I feel that some emphasis on Mace and what may appear to be immoral to Anakin would strengthen the reasoning for his turn against the Jedi in my mind. Perhaps if Mace doesn't say nice things like, "you'll have earned my trust," but instead seems cold after receiving this information from Anakin might strengthen this perception. If some other Samuel L. Jackson quote could be found that included something like, "I'll take care of this myself," it might help as well. But still, I wish somehow Anakin's own guilt could be brought more to the fore when handling this, but flashbacks and internal dialogue don't work well in Star Wars. Perhaps some Hayden Christiansen line could be inserted when talking about how Palpatine should be tried in court, but his filmography is far smaller than Jackson's and it'd be harder to find that sort of a quote I would think.
The Mace/Snape idea is interesting, but I don't know how you'd pull it off given his relatively minor involvement.
here's an old edit by SSWR from years back that might help.

This would work like a charm...
Just leaving this here too :
and lets not forget....
THE ANIMATED VERSION!
See, I actually really love this idea, but... I'm not sure how this would be accomplished.
Have LUKE born on dagobah (padme survives).
The Tantive IV then goes to Alderaan, where a scene opens with Bail Organa says "We have always thought of adopting." (but no reference to a girl, this suggests he is planning to take LUKE).
Obi-wan looks concerned and approaches a sleeping padme (taken from from earlier) she mutters 'obi wan'.
We now see General Grevious' fighter on a landing pad, which obi-wan enters, on his lap is a baby. He then flies off into space .... alone....
This was all mocked up by someone else ages ago. I think its a good ESB style ending.
You would create all this with magic. Why do we do this to ourselves?
Well, instead of landing on that asteroid, they land on Dagobah. And the babies are born on the Tantive IV, on Dagobah.
Hey, ben_danger, do you know who mocked it up?
SSWR (again). its a mockup of his i've been after for a while. he reused the shot of obi-wan climbing in the fighter on utapau.
the whole thing was to the same rendition of the force theme heard right at the end of ROTS, and had a 'new dawn' vibe to it which was good. the thing that worked best though was how ambiguous obi wan just flying off into space was. true star wars ending that leaves no hint to the next adventure!
Argh. I'm really cursing my bad fortune. I was never able to see SSWR's stuff.
Here's Davnes' take on the Dagobah meeting and Bob Garcia (I think did an edit with Padme surviving but his Youtube channel is down too.
Maybe asking him or Angel might do the necessary.
It was Cutter, Bingo!

On the other hand; is there someone who downloaded or kept SSWR vids?
They're getting kinda mithical; the guy seemed to have great ideas!
Greetings!
I've always loved that idea of the Cutters for Padme being alive.
Thanks for the correction Mithrandir (in my defense the two projects were announced around the same time and they do get merged in my head sometimes).

You forgot that the two vanished around the same time too xD; and that most of us would love to have those projects merged!
Now it looks it's time for Eric ;)
Greetings!
