I can't wait to see Gungans in 3D !
Saw "Hugo-3D" last night (fantastic flick! Film preservationists will especially love it). Before the film, they showed some 3D trailers, one of which was TPM and other prequel scenes thrown in. Have to admit, it looked fun.

How did the 3D conversion look?
I'm holding out for the X-Ray version.
It's a shame the trailer isn't available anywhere online in 3D. It would be good to evaluate the 3D conversion in the comfort of your own home.
Mind you, if LFL had any sense about them they would have included a 3D trailer on the blu-ray release.
Your brain just makes s**t up!
A fate worse than death? Having your head digitally replaced with that of Hayden Christensen!
The parts they showed from the prequels all looked excellent to my untrained (in 3D) eyes. There was very little from the OT. Of course, they probably showed the best parts.
Of course, there wasn't even an attempt at conveying any sort of plot... just a vague allusion to revenge against the Jedi carried out by Darth Maul. Other than that, just a barrage of unrelated 3D effects. They were wise to show almost no Gungans. Pure eye candy made even more banal, as light sabers jump into your face and spaceships arc around planets.
Hugo, however, was just the opposite. I mostly forgot I was watching 3D and just got immersed in the Paris subway. Best 3D I've ever seen. And a really, really great cast who all turn in stellar performances. Christopher Lee fans won't be disappointed... and wait till you see the new Borat!

I must admit that I'm actually looking forward to TPM in 3D, just for the FX 3D ride factor. I must say I like in your face 3D and I was disappointed e.g. with Avatar for not being enough in my face. I'm, sorry, but if I pay the extra money to see a film in 3D, I want to be constantly aware I'm watching 3D, and forgetting I'm watching 3D is for me the least desirable thing that can happen. I want things to poke and fly at me out of the screen. In fact the best 3D I've ever seen was some stupid IMAX sharks documentary, which was in negative parallax the whole time, so it actually felt like the ocean filled the room and you were immersed in it and not as if the screen was a tank window. It was my 1st 3D and I've never seen anything like it since and have thus been at least slightly disappointed by every 3D film from then on.
Then I don't think you'll be a fan of TPM3D Harmy. I saw the trailer a while back and it's....disappointing. There was barely any depth to the thing at all.
I'm glad there will be a 2D version available too. I might try the 3D version just out of curiosity.
Seeing the 2D version sounds kind of depressing. That movie was such an event the first time, this time you can basically go watch the blu-ray with 6 other guys in dinky Theater 14.

Take away the DNR and bump up the resolution slightly, and yeah, pretty much.
Actually, I don't think you should take away the DNR at all. I'm pretty sure they DNRed it specifically because of the 3D release and the 2D will most likely be just a 2D version of the 3D master.
Also, given LFL's history, it's quite possible that the new TPM master is 1080p only (not necessarily the scan but the master) so there's no guarantee that the resolution would be higher either.
It would be a shock if there were any film prints out there for the 2D version.
Where were you in '77?

Actually, this DNR'ed version from the BD's was made back in '99 for showing on digital theaters.
Actually I think there's some confusion, guys.
If you watch the trailer in 1080p at the Apple site, you don't see the DNR that's on the BD. This makes me think LFL only DNR'd the blu-ray master but left the actual 2K master alone.
