This is pretty cool.

With the right lighting and it could be pretty convincing even without CGI trickery.

that was great!!  aw man - they shoulda done something like that for ROTS.  would have been more time consuming, of course - but if anything - i think that footage proves something like grevious could have easily been an OT character (unless the materials are really light weight fiberglass or foam that didn't really exist in 1983, not sure).

hmm...dunno, maybe - the banthas were elephants, but i thought they designed them pretty well.

lol, im replaying this video over again - just getting a kick out of how they pulled this off.  and i can't really see the legs until the :45 mark.

Amazing costume!

It would have been costly and time consuming to do the optical work, but Grevious could have been done that way. He could have also been animated in Go Motion for the complex shots too.

This scene from Labyrinth was shot on a black backdrop, with the puppeteers also dressed in black.

"How they could have done the prequels with 80's FX" would make for an interesting thread? ;)

One of my friends has a new boyfriend, and the worst thing I can say about him is that he doesn't dislike the prequels as much as I would like him to.

I recently watched Mario Bava's Black Sabbath (amazing movie) and was struck by how effective the visuals were. These shots are more atmospheric and interesting than anything in the prequels.

I was watching that surfer cartoon on MTV that follows Beavis and Butthead, and there was a character toking from a Yoda bong!

You know, if storm troopers were the same clones from the PT. No wonder the Empire has so many of them. I mean, they blew up the Death Star and that had what? Over a 100,000?

So I've been wanting to share our Halloween costumes with you guys.  We do have group shots, but we never got all the costumes properly displayed in the group shots, particularly the AT-ST, so here are the individual shots.  My only regret is that you won't be able to fully appreciate the attractive people wearing the costumes :)

I'm a little embarrassed about this one: we bought it used and it said it was complete, but it didn't actually have a cape.  We had to use some undersized vampire cape and tuck in the collar (not colar).

My wife decided at the last minute to make us all a themed family and made both the R2-D2 costume and the AT-ST costume in one day.  I was impressed with how they both turned out.

We had already planned for a theme, but our boys wanted to be something else, so we never completed the original costumes for them (we had thought they could be Jawas or Ewoks, since they're twins).  As you can see, even without much of a face, my daughter made an adorable Yoda :)

One of my best friends from college is really starting to show her nerdiness, and I've never been more proud of her than this Google+ update:

For my geeks: Today, I was tempted to imagine how events in my past would have been better with a tweak here or a change there, but then I remembered George Lucas and was totally over it.

This is you all influencing me influencing her. We all thank you.

Okay, screw GOUT. I don't want to spend that much time and money on such sub-par DVD transfers. Got a Pioneer CLD-S315 in excellent condition recently, and just tried it out with a mint Laserdisc of the 97 SE version of Star Wars. Even though that version of the film is far from perfect, I was honestly blown away by the quality of the LD. And that was from an entry-level player hooked up to a 42" LCD TV!

I'll definitely be buying LDs of the OOT. Even if the THX LD transfers aren't perfect, this is gonna be way cooler than upscaling a shitty non-anamorphic faux-grainy DVD.

I can't make out the letters very well in the upper right hand corner, but I think the first line reads, "The best quality."  Under the big "Star Trek" reads, "Only quality DVD."  It cracks me up that someone had enough skill to design the packaging and not know the different sources where they were getting their Star Trek and Vader material.  Yep, that's high quality.

Scene from the above set:

I'd like to see the scene immediately following this one, where Kirk gives Vader a karate chop to the neck, stuns all four stormtroopers, then makes out with Princess Leia.
