The cell bay does look a tad better. The Death Star II....if they were to remove the stupid ring, that would be all the fixing it needs. Funny that the slugs remain. BTW, this is the 500th post in this thread.

I am very happy that the lightsaber colors are being fixed for AHN, ESB, and ROTJ for The dvds because if you look at the 1997 special edtion releases of the flims it does not look like the lightsaber colors where fixed. And in the original versions of the flims allthough it was nice back then (25-30 years a go) the look grainy buy todays standors but in the flims they look good because we all loved them so much. Any I am happy the lightsabers are being fixed and I'm looking foward to buying the sw trilogy (episodes IV,V,VI) when they come out on dvd on sept. 21st not matter what versions are released. Jimbo you make good posts on this site. So any thoughs on the lightsaber colors being fixed?

Luke Luke Luke. Poor poor simple Luke. Hardcore Legend posted that not me. I have nothing against the puppet Jabba in Return of the Jedi. Except that he didn't move. You have to learn to read more fully before you post and to start respecting others opinions.

lol
jimbo you have really learned to copy what i always have to say to you...
and Jabba wasnt supposed to move.... they only came up with that idea when the SE came around...

Well, seing as I was the one that said it, I will respond. I never said anything about the SE ANH looking good, I said that the Jabba in the Phantom Menace looked more realistic than the puppet in ROTJ. I'm sorry, but a puppet will always be a puppet. You can tell everytime. The only exception is with Yoda in ESB, but even then if you know anything about film you still look for the camera tricks that are used to hide it. I'm not a CGI fanboy, but I can't with a clear soul pass into the next life saying that the Jabba in ROTJ looked real, I mean, the man had no throat, just a mouth and toungue.

oops... sry bout that dude... i just saw the avatar and figured it was jimbo.... actually i agree with your post somewhat.... i can see where your coming from...

jimbo take some lessons from this guy... he gives reasons as to why things are the way they are..
not just...
SE are so much better than the crappy OT cuz I said so!!!

the only change I ever wanted to see in any special addition, would be to improve the look of the Rancor Scene in ROTJ, the shot where Luke is crouched under a rock and the rancor's hand comes into shot to pick him up, i've always felt it was one of the sloppiest piece of blue-screen effects in the whole trilogy, and could never understand why it wasn't the first thing they fixed up in the original special editions (surely it was more important than the Muppet Musical production of 'Jedi Rocks) surely it wouldn't be too hard to either colour correct the scene, or recreate the rancors hand in cgi so that it blended into the scene better, Even better still if they could recreate the cut scene of luke falling onto the monster's eye from the grate.

and i wish they had of redone the shot of the trash compactor monster's eye popping out of the water, the way the shot was lit differently makes it look like an old piece of 'stock footage' ripped from a 'B' monster movie, it always looked like it had been addded as an after-thought.

hope this doesn't sound like I'm in favour of the special editions, I just wish George had tweaked some of the existing effects that needed work, without adding all the cheap visual gags that were designed to show off ILM's skills, rather than advance the story any further.

Bring back Lapti nek and the Ewok Nub yub song!!!

The original ewoks song sucked. I am glad its gone. Not that the new one is much better. I also really hope that Lucas fixes the Racor lines. It makes no sense that he left those in tact. That would have been one of the first changes I would have made. No word on whether this has been fixed but it is a definute possibility. There are rumors that it has. In my opinion the biggest problem with the Special Editions is what they didn't change.

ya i agree with the Rancor scene...
those black lines around the hand are just hard core noticable...
with the way technology is now they could easily erase those...

Yeah, the Rancor needed help. Leaving that really made the SE seem more "unfinished" than what Lucas claimed the OT was. Jimbo, the Ewok song ruled. I have the original OST cassette, trust me, the film barely features it. My mom pointing out its absence is what made me think over the SEs(before, all I cared was that I got to see the trilogy on the big screen). I just don't get why people hate it so. Its barely in the film, and much better than "singing Ewokese"(according to the captions) being heard on Coruscant. That makes no sense.

After finally seeing the French trailer I am not convinced that the sabers have been altered. It looks like any anomalies may simply be the result of color and balance and re-mastering. And the Death Star explosion appears to be the same as the Special Edition. However, the cell bay definitely looks altered. I made some comparison shots you can check out here. On the screenshots I took of the originals I adjusted the brightness and cropped the sides to more closely match the French trailer.

Also, for those who haven't yet been able to see the French trailer, I edited the relevent parts out so everyone could see them for themselves. Download here. (1.7MB)

I rewatched that footage, and something that still bothers me is that the lightsabers "blend" in the Emperor scene from Jedi. Why wouldn't this be fixed? It merely makes it look like a fan-flick, rather than some ILM put out.
The Jedi are all but extinct.......

I am dissipointed that the lightsaber blend in Return of the Jedi is still unfixed. Still this is proof that the lightsabers in A New Hope have been fixed. As I have been saying for a while. I do agree the death star explosion looks no different.
Author

This is not proof that the sabers have been 'fixed.' They are too similar to the original. What we are seeing could just be the result of re-mastering.

It appears to me that the lightsaber blend in front of the Emperor is the result of the video compression or something. I really don't think it will be like that on the DVD. And how can anyone possibly be disappointed that it is not being fixed? It never appeared this way to begin with.

Greedo shoots first? Not in my DVD player.

First example of lightsabers could be the result of remastering but the second example is far too different. It is definutly a fix. The hallway is also definutly changed. Making the death star bigger and therefore improving the shot. The death star explosion looks like the only difference is better remastering for the DVD and no other change. I wish the french trailer included shots of the new Jabba animation the bits promised but I guess we will have to wait for that. Yes the lack of fixing on the blending is disipointing. I still have hope for the Racor.

I feel the same way. As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter what they change because I won't be buying them anyway. These aren't the films I grew up.

On another note, check out this holographic Emperor action figure that will be offered later this year. Specifically, check out the picture of the front of the card. It's small and hard to make out, but it appears to be very similar to the images we've been seeing. And the fact that Hasbro has chosen to produce a figure representing this specific scene in TESB pretty much confirms the rumors.

Altering Boba Fett's Voice on DVDs?
Thu, Jul 15, 04 01:32:57 AM EDT

We're still hearing rumors and rumblings about changes to the Classic Trilogy movies when they arrive on DVD this September - but even official details about the new "extended versions" of the films have been tightly held. What would you think if we told you that in addition to other audio enhancements, Boba Fett has been altered to have a New Zealender's accent? Wild, but true.

Now what is it. Now that the Jabba animation and Han and Greedo have been fixed what about the 1997 Special Editions is there to complain about. The only thing left is the new Hayden head. I am finally on the same bout when you guys. I hate that change to death.

Well, this might vary from person to person, but for most of us, there's Luke's scream as he falls, Darth Vader's new arrival at his Star Destroyer, the new Jabba's Palace dance sequence thing (both the dance sequence and the new song) and the new celebration ending at the end of Return of the Jedi. There's also lots of other stuff, but those are just the main ones.

Han and Greedo might look a lot better now (and even though they improved it a lot, it's still Greedo shooting first) and they may have fixed up Jabba (in which case I probably won't mind the scene as much), but there's still lots of stuff they changed in the 1997 Special Editions that we hate, as I pointed out above.

And if they do alter Boba Fett's voice, I'm going to be really pissed off. I'm hoping it's not true, but unfortunately I can definitely see this happening. Why can't Lucas just stick to actual, real improvements like fixing up the lightsabers in A New Hope or removing the matte lines around the Rancor? Why does he have to completely screw with the movies like this by adding Hayden into the end of Return of the Jedi and now possibly changing Boba Fett's voice? Well, this all proves to me that the Special Editions (or Ultimate Editions or whatever these the new versions are called) aren't the movies that George Lucas originally intended to make, as he always claims - they're the movies he wants them to be right now. If he's embarrased by the original versions or just hates them or something and because of that is now changing the movies to resemble what he wants them to be right now, he should come out and just say it instead of hiding behind his "it's how I originally intended them to be" excuse, which is not true.

Yes, some of the Special Edition stuff he did originally intend to do (Jabba the Hutt in A New Hope, Cloud City and Mos Eisley being more open, etc.) but there's also lots of stuff he did that he didn't originally intend, like Greedo shooting first. He may have said that he originally intended that, but I don't believe him one bit, especially since I read part of an interview with Gary Kurtz, who was the producer for A New Hope. In the part I read, he said that it wasn't true that Lucas originally intended for Greedo to shoot first and that it could have easily been done back then, but it was shot and edited as Han shooting first because that's the way it was written in the script and that's the way Lucas wanted it back then.

So some of these things Lucas is doing just to be politically correct and say "No" to violence or something like that. And in case anyone's interested, check this out: http://dvdfile.com/software/cut_list/files/starwars_censored.htm

It shows two scenes aboard the Death Star where some of the violence was censored in the Special Editions, which really backs up the argument that Lucas changed Han shooting first to Greedo shooting first because of political correctness.

Anyway, I think I've just gone waaaaaay off topic, so I'll stop here.

Those are only a few frames. Be honest if you don't watch it frame by frame would you even notice. Plus Bobas voice hasn't been confirmed yet. Theforce.net admits there not sure. I honestly loved Bobas old voice and would not want them to fuck with it. Also I like the celebration sequence. Also the dance sequence was originally intended. It was attempted. Yeah it sucks but its nothing compared to several garbage that was always in Return of the Jedi. Ewoks beating clones.

I mean if it's a few frames why did he alter it in the first place? Answer me that.

Same reason they did the same thing in Who Frammed Roger Rabbit. No good reason. Its stupid and wrong but if its not detectable its not worth caring about.
