I think the main problem here is that we are led to believe that the stormtroopers from the OT are actually clones. Those super elite Mandalorian bounty hunter troops that barely hit anything in the OT... And you have to do a LOT of retconing to make this work.

Storm Troopers weren't Clones. They were new recruits trained by them.
