It may seem like I'm not releasing the covers, actually I've had no time to work on them. I've been trying to get as much school work done before fall break as I can so I can get my diploma faster. Since the work is all computer based, my eyes can't look at a computer screen at the end of the day. Now it's break and I can focus on the covers which should be done by the end of next week.

No sweat sir, you have to have your priorities straight. Glad to hear its on the back-burner. I just keep checking this thread occasionally.

Hello,

I've not posted here for about 4-5 years. I just returned to making custom Star Wars covers, and I've started out with this.

Tweaked the 1997 TT's to fit my overall design and restored the original John Alvin artwork for this cover series.

Still working on the back, but here's a quick preview of what's cooking.

Saw this on Blu-Ray.com too.  What do you mean "restored" the Alvin art?

Coming soon!!!

In a vein similar to Harmy's restorations I have restored the film posters to the best of my abilities. They may not be 100% accurate, but they are very pleasing to the eye. I did my own take of the Definitive laser disc box set, though it is still quite different. I'm almost done with the discs, so they will be uploaded sometime in the next few days or so.

All art and images are pre 1997 material to make things more legit. The only images on the back that are not from Harmy's preservation are promotional images and what not.

In an ideal world, the original unaltered trilogy is released on blu ray, and they are in these cases. Great work!

And the transfer looks something like these:

I mean, when I look at this and think about what could be, I just want to cry:

I'm sorry I've been postponing these so much. I've been in a lot of funk lately.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Very well stated.  ESF, take your time, bunk the funk, and all will be good!

Okay, so just had the idea to possibly put EyeShotFirsts artwork with Harmys Despecialized Version in to clear Amaray cases that you find sold by the Criterion Collection. I think they compliment well, the whole thing would be really retro and very different from the rest of the Blu's on my shelf.

Anyone have luck with these Amaray cases? Same dimensions as the regular blue Blu-ray cases?

The dimensions will be different because the Criterion cases don't have the Blu-ray logo branded onto the top (the artwork covers the entirety of the case).

The artwork dimensions should still be the same though.

I don't think so. The artwork fills the whole case, so the dimensions would need to be taller. Also I think the Criterion cases have a wider spine (not sure of the exact width).

Cleared away the funk and back to work full force. This weekend should be the time.

Hey folks,

I, too, have been inspired by Harmy's despecs to create some cover art. These are the first movie covers I have put together, but I am enjoying it and think they are coming along well.

Like EyeShotFirst, I am using the older artwork (always my favorite), but with slightly different takes (framing, color balance, banners, etc.). I used color corrected lightsabers more accurate for the films. ROTJ was already done in the source image, and the SW77 one I did. All of the poster images came from the Hi-Res Cover Art thread, and the screenshots I took straight from Harmy's edits in VLC.

For the spines, I went more with a 2006 DVD look. You can't tell, but the sequels use a font called "Episode I" with "Depecialized Edition" below in the same typeface as on SW77.

They are not quite done, as I have to do the backs and write the copy for TESB and ROTJ and finish the specs, credits, and fine print for all three, but they should be finished soon.

As these are my first covers, feedback is appreciated.

Those look great! Personally, I think that the SW logo on the back cover in the upper-left corner looks a little out of place. I'd recommend removing it and centering the "A long time ago..." instead. Just a suggestion! ;) Other than that I really like em.

Thanks!

That logo takes the place of the barcode, similar to the way comic book companies replace (or used to anyway) the barcode with a picture on direct editions.

Example:

I may keep it the same on all three, replace it with a barcode, or come up with something a little different for each-- haven't decided. I really appreciate the feedback!

I know I said they'd be done during the weekend, well they are. I'm just doing quality control over them. Hopefully I can get them out tomorrow after school.

Oh man this is fantastic news. Well I am going to order in the three Criterion cases and either crop, scale or do what it takes in Photoshop or Publisher to make this work.

With a little research I learned that the standard Amray blu-ray case has a spline width of 14mm. So I can only hope that outside of the top the dimensions that these are the same as the standard Amray case.

Sorry again, I've got to make more adjustments. They aren't turning out the way I want them.

HA! I thought the exact same thing the other day when I was adjusting pictures and such for the back of my set.

"OK, just a little brighter on this one. Oh, that text is too blurry, better recreate it digitally... Oh, god... This is how it starts... I've become-- him. /shudder" lol

I guess the difference is I thought better of it and stopped myself, you know, before I got to the adding "a cartoon rabbit who steps in poop" stage, to quote RedLetterMedia :D.

I'm really OCD about this. Trying to get it perfect. I'm taking a day off tomorrow so I can focus on them. I didn't feel like working on them today, because I was dog tired after school.
