i saw TPM over the weekend.  was curious since i kept hearing that this had the most improvement over its DVD counterpart but it was agressively scrubbed.

I mentioned on another thread I was interested in learning if TPM would still be more pleasing than the other PT movies because of the look.  If I were to guess, I would have to say 'no'.

while the EE is gone for the most part, the DNR is laughable.  And I normally don't notice this kind of stuff as well as other home theatre enthusiasts.  The scene of TC-14 welcoming qui-gon and obi-wan is so blatant.  Its hilarious watching the first scene in the Jedi temple.  It looks like new CGI yoda is real with details and the actors and the set are all CGI!!

So as far as the 'film-look', this movie is a shadow of what it once was.  Its not identical to AOTC or ROTS, but it looks nothing like I saw it in the theatre. it would be easier to find out what shots still retain original grain and color as opposed to whats been scrubbed and washed.

yes, its true that TPM has never looked better on home video.  and im sure apologists are going to say that DNR on TPM is ok because its at the discretion of the 'artist'.  But this is yet another piece of ever-growing evidence that lucas' sensibilities are identical to that of a suit and not the artist he likes to call himself.  I never saw patton or predator.  perhaps TPM is not as bad as those movies, but i don't think its acceptable.

so AOTC has that utterly stupid re-edit of the yoda/dooku duel and TPM now has a sterile look to it.  If I was a big enough fan of these movies, this would really disappoint me.
