Just saw the "empire hotline" recordings on the ESB disk.  Wow, those are cool! I'd never heard those before.  Great extra.

You should see how it was handled on the Blu-ray, very cool.

Looking forward to it someday! (Assuming here that you're speaking of your Blu-rays, not that OTHER set.)

Really? I'm intrigued. I wish I could pick up the BD set, but a) I don't have a bd burner, b) I have a bandwidth cap that would force me to take me a long time to dl them.

But I did dl the DVD V3. How much did I enjoy them? Let's just say I had a smile on my face the whole time, something no other dvd release (legit or otherwise) has been able to do. I thank you wholeheartedly.

Any chance of a MySpleen invite? I'm dying to check this out.

Thanks for all of the amazing work!

Thanks DJ! I just got my copies! Does anyone know of a tutorial for getting these files on a DVD?

It's not a tutorial, but the simplest program I've found is

Best software to use in my opinion is ImgBurn.  The interface is pretty clear, and the process fairly self-explanatory.

1. From the main screen, select "Burn Files to Disc" (assuming the V3s you have are in Video_TS folders and not ISOs (image files).

2. Browse for the Video_TS folder of the film you're burning.

3. You may do it automatically once the blank disc has been inserted, but if not, press the calculator button on the right hand side of the screen to calculate disc/burn parameters.

4. If presented with layer break options, pick whichever one you wish from the list (each is accompanied with a preview, so you'll see where in the film it will occur).  I believe I went with the first option (54:27?), which placed it at the beginning of the Alderaan destruction scene.

5. The program may prompt you to address a few other things (volume labels, etc.).

6. Hit burn and you should be done.

Edit: Ah, MattMahdi beat me to it :)

Sorry for not thanking you yet. So far have only watched the first Star Wars, but you did a wonderful job given the source material! Unless an official restoration comes out (post Lucas' death?), these DVD's are the definitive versions.

I like the bare bones approach, too, instead of fans loading them up with extras while sacrificing quality. Anyone who wants the original trilogy, these are THE ONES to get. Just PM dark_jedi or walkingdork for an invite. It's an easy process.

Cheers!

Any possibility of a MySpleen invite? I'd love to check these out.

Nice job Dark!  I mean that's putting it mildly.  I wanted to break them out first night, but our baby came a bit early, lol.  Long story short, we were in the hopspital several weeks, but all is well now.  Anyhow I got a chance to look at all 3, and watch most of STAR WARS (yes, I still refer to Episode lV as just STAR WARS).  I don't have much new to add to the "reviews", but only to echo everyone's accolades.  Just a phenomenal job.  I dropped in the GOUT for a comparison and it's not even close.  Those discs are coasters now.  Plus it's so awesome to have the many sound mixes at the flick of a button where before we would have to actually switch discs (!).  Gotta love technology. Menus are fantastic as well...great job by not going with "obvious" music for the menus.  It's easy to see the hours of work in these discs.  As stated, there's only so far you can go with the source material, but even with that in mind, the picture stands up well on a 42 display...i will soon try it on my 106" projector:)  They are hands down, the definitive version of the original unaltered trilogy to this point.  You have my appreciation!

Excellent job DJ. An easy win over those crappy letterboxed bonus DVDs from '06. Eagerly awaiting the Blus. Does anybody know if Macbooks can convert these to disc automatically, or do you need a program?

So I'll go ahead and ask:  Any plans on a PIF thing with this for the BDs?  I have no problems doing a set for someone on BD if I can get my hands on them.

Absolutely not, I will not have anything to do with the so called "PIF" again, I have commented on this before, not sure where here though, actually maybe more than once, but this type of sharing does not work, it never has, somewhere along the line it always fails from members that say they will participate and then don't hold up their end(probably the same dumb fucks that leech and do not seed back) plus not many people have Blu-ray burners still, I personally have been burned by this several times, so sorry, I will not start this at all or participate in it, once they are out, and someone else wants to chance it, go for it, but I certainly will not put one together.

Actually once these are available, I do not care how they are shared, just give a courtesy heads up is all, same with the V3 DVD Set.

Fair enough.  I have always tried my hardest to do PiF chains and do them right.  I'll just keep a look out for them then.  Since my ISP now has me at a 250gb/month limit, I just hope once they are out I can get all 3 before they are gone.

DarkJedi--I've been trying to PM you but may have run into technical difficulties.

When/if they exist, I'm looking for 720p screencaps from the Blu versions of both SW and ROTJ showing the burnt-in subtitles you're using.  I'm trying to do a good font/placement match (and I really need actual screencaps).  I'd prefer to get them in advance of the actual release--I'm trying to get my project out there in advance of yours and Harmy's next releases, as I'm trying to get it to integrate well with both.  PM me for details, thanks.

I am redoing them so there are no screens.

OK, I'd like to request them when they exist.  No special hurry, and worst-case I can just grab them from the final product myself after-the-fact.

Just out of curiosity, I am close to finishing the new video for SW and ROTJ, ESB is going to be a while longer, but if you guys could choose 3 scenes, 1 from each film for a Blu-ray 720p sample, which scenes would you guys think I should use? this will be the sample I post on the first page, plus it will give you an idea of the color and quality of the release.

I also may redo some of the audio if I can manage to get better LD rips, but only if I can get all of them, it won't be worth doing over for just 1 or 2 of them, but if I get all that I want, then I will definitely redo the audio LPCM tracks, because like have said in the past, I want my last Star Wars project to be as good as I can possibly get it.

Plus hairy_hen is redoing the Star Wars 5.1 mix, and touching up ESB and ROTJ 5.1 mix, these will be replacing the older 5.1 mixes I have used, and a huge Thank you goes out to him for those new\updated tracks.

Thanks Everyone

Awesome news d_j.  I'm very excited to see some samples of the blu's.

My choices would be:

SW = opening scenes with Star Destroyer flyover, Blockade Runner corridor shootout

ESB = beginning of Luke / Vader duel in the carbon freezing chamber

ROTJ = not sure... Vader death scene aboard Death Star?

Whatever you choose, I'm looking forward to seeing them.

Actually, I'd like to see the sample clips of what DJ thought was the most challenging scenes in each movie that he had to restore. Basically, which scene in each movie did DJ have to to the most work on (or the most controversial changes)..

For example, there was a bit of discussion on the colour of Luke's skin in the hanger in SW. Some felt that a little bit redder was OK because being from a desert planet, he probably had a tan, others felt that the original cinematic colours were not so strong on that hue and we should stick more to it.

I mean, I don't think any of us needs "trailers" of these movies any more right? So, I think that other people doing restoration projects will greatly appreciate these samples. They kind of "set the bar" for every project after for those "challenging" scenes as well as provide a guide and/or a specifci reference point for all future discussions..
