Lucasfilm: 3D RELEASES MAY NOT HAPPEN AFTER ALL — Page 3

That poster does indeed look like a mess. Why would Maul be the biggest character? I do see that they're showing off the a CGI Yoda...

I actually hope that this does all right because the fate of the rest of the saga depends on it. For instance, I really want to see the OT come out in theaters again even if it is an awful version.

Still, I can't picture the masses flooding to see the disappointment that was The Phantom Menace again.

I'm surprised the poster still claims the film stars Liam.

what a lousy poster.  Im not expecting all posters to look like the SW 1977 One-Sheet, but this reeks of laziness.  The gold special edition poster was cool.  So was the IMAX AOTC poster.

This is coming right on the heels of blu ray - i gotta believe that would dampen any motivation to pay a premium to see this in 3d for a lot of people.

I also agree with the idea that lucas is trying to blackmail people into seeing TPM by saying he won't convert other episodes if TPM bombs. it'll be interesting to see if he reiterates this as we come closer to the date.

Hard to tell how successful this will be - im wondering if that IMAX release of AOTC is a good comparison?   That made $8 million in 2002 dollars < 100 screens.  unlike other campaigns - there was no hiding that it was strictly a novelty; the IMAX AOTC was a pretty fun experience (if there is one takeaway from AOTC for me, at least the theatrical runs were fun interesting experiences with the crowds and different types of theatres).

if I were to guess, I would say sales far less than Lion King 3D, but = clone wars.  And that would be enough to cover the costs.

I don't have strong feelings about the 3D TPM one way or another.  It probably will do pretty well (not great, but good), and in all honesty I have to admit that I'll probably go and see it.  Too bad the creepy puppet yoda isn't in it -- that's one of my favorite parts of TPM and I would have loved to see "it" in 3D.  Scary! :)

Dang, now a part of me almost wishes my handle was "creepy puppet yoda" so I could use it as my avatar.

What's so horrible about the poster?  Yeah it isn't great, but I've seen worse.

When I were a kid (and all this was just fields), they used to pay artists with talent to paint - paint, mind you! - posters.

Poster is grotesque. I have zero interest in seeing this affront to cinema again, let alone in dumb-ass 3D.

I suspect this poster is looking like simple copy paste elements because it will more easy to make 3D cover of the upcoming blu ray out of it. Course I could be wrong and maybe it's just a quickly made teaser poster. We never know with LFL now.

Maybe someone else will take it.

A brief shining moment of hope that it might not happen, and that's gone. Sigh.

Still, I can't picture the masses flooding to see the disappointment that was The Phantom Menace again.

People will go. They will go in fucking droves. Kids will go too, make no mistake. It will make a goddamn fortune.

Oh no, all my memories of the 1999 TPM hype machine are coming flooding back. The horror, the horror... :)

The only good thing I can say about this new poster is that it doesn't have Jar Jar on it.

I am not seeing this, or any of the other SW films in 3D, because I loathe the prequels, I despise the SEs, and I refuse to watch 3D conversions of 2D films on principle. The only thing that has Star Wars in the name that would get me back into a theater would be the OUT projected from actual film prints.

You get nothing, Lucas. You lose. Good day sir.

It seems a bit arse about boob to have released the blu-rays first.

Sure TPM will be in 3D (sort of) but it's still the same material.

If the 3D versions have the same changes as the blu-rays where's the novelty (beyond the 3D)?

Is it possible they may adjust the films further to create more 'dangling in your face' material creating yet another version?

I will be shocked if there are NOT any changes for the 3D versions.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Don't give them ideas!

I already have nightmares about a 3D "enhanced" scene I won't go into. ;)

Where were you in '77?

Further changes are inevitable. The Blu-ray was a test of creating new scenes like the SE was a test of what could be done at that time. Look at that scene with R2 and the new rocks in front of him. Perfect shot for 3D right there. Same goes with Jabba's palace gate. The news scenes reek of poor 3D effects just waiting to happen.

Wow what a crappy poster. What a shame that the art of the poster is all but gone now. When I look at the classic poster art from the early 1900's through to the 80's, I feel like crying to see how posters have now become a lousy cut-n-paste industry with absolutely no talent whatsoever. This poster is a perfect example.

I have seen a few really amazing conversions to be honest. I saw Piranha which was filmed with 3D conversion in mind from the start, and the conversion took close to a year, and it shows. I'm not sure I would have known it was converted if I hadn't already read it - it was that good.

A large part of Transformers 3 was actually converted, though some of it was shot in 3D, and it looked amazing - again I didn't know much of it was converted until I read about it after I saw it. And I saw Beauty and the Beast 3D which was incredible.

So given the right talent, a conversion can look amazing, though i naturally prefer films to be shot in 3D from the beginning. That said, this is Star Wars we're talking about here, and I'm sure it will look rather terrible if the poster and recent blu-rays are any indication.
