Puggo GRANDE - 16mm restoration (Released) — Page 27

There are some 16mm prints out there of the first movie that also have great color.  What made the PG print of interest is that it was from 1977.  All the ones I've seen for sale that have better color are later prints.

How did you transfer the film?  The new blurays suck.  This site is so cool.  Can't wait to download some of your work.

There's 27 pages of posts describing every step of the transfer.  Enjoy!  But realize that this one isn't high def - not even medium def.  :)

Also, after you download it, there's a short documentary about the transfer. And welcome to the forum!  I agree, this is a very cool place with lots of great stuff going on.

Speaking of that documentary, is Moth3r's name really pronounced like a moth?

I didn't realize the GRANDE was available! How did I miss that?! :/ Anyway, off I go to get it...

Is that a joke Ripplin? It's been awhile. :-)

In any case, it's really good. You'll enjoy it. If you want a Swedish-subtitled version, the Stajanornas Krig is also available.

It's correct title is STJÄRNORNAS KRIG. ;)

Whoops. Thanks for the correction, msycamore. I find it hard to remember the Swedish title. Edited the original post.

No problem, it's not easy for non Swedish guys to spell that stupid title correct, especially with its 'ä' in it. ;)

No, not a joke. Might've helped if the thread title was changed to reflect its availability, but oh well.

It has been my policy to not distribute my edits.  Officially, they are for my own private amusement and research.  Dang if other people don't sneak in and mess everything up by distributing them, though  :)

Is there something special about this one?  On any given day there are generally a couple of these up on eBay.  It is exactly the first of four reels on the Puggo Edition.  Now, a scope copy would be cool... they come up very rarely.

I believe it's a widescreen copy, and "flat" is full scren. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

not scope my mistake.  i have got to look over this stuff better.

Scope means that each widescreen frame is stretched vertically to fill the entire frame.  Then it requires a special lens to stretch it back horizontally when viewing.  PG and PSB were scope prints stretched in software after fullscreen capture.

Flat can mean either full frame or widescreen with borders, neither of which require a special lens to project.

Scope is generally the preferred type of 16mm or 8mm print if you're looking for the very best quality.

Then there's the difference between the "Cinemascope" method of squeezing and the "Cineavision" one for 8mm prints.

The Cineavision prints add narrow black bands to the squeezed image to maintain the entire image and not crop it out like the Cinemascope versions do. (As I understand it. Maybe it's the other way around.) I don't know if the actual squeeze ratio is identical, but I suppose it had to be to maintain compatibility with standard anamorphic lenses on projectors.

I have both on my site under the 8mm heading.

In the Netherlands there's a company that scans 16mm film to HD (1400x1040). I don't think they care what kind of material it is. It's 2,50 euro per minute. So for under 1000 euros you can have the OOT scanned. So whoever owns these 16mm films, maybe it's a nice idea.

Any chance I could get a MySpleen invite? I'd love to be able to get this.
