The other day, the GM of the TB Lightning brought the Stanley Cup to NASA. My friend works there and had his picture taken with the Cup. He was in awe. Can't say I wouldn't be as well. That would be a sight to behold. The coolest trophy of any sport because of its history (even if this is the second Cup; the first was retired to the Hall of Fame in 1960).
I've seen it when it was in Detroit (I was lucky enough to see the Wings win it in Detroit in 97 and 02

The story is..... that the cup that is taken around and given to the players is the original base but a replica cup (the top part). the original is in the vault in the basement of the HHOF. I've seen it. Awhile back the NHL comissioned a replica cup part (they even made bite marks in the new one to replicate the old one from some overzealous players drinking out of it) because the old one was too fragile. So, the one that everyone gets to see is the original base, just new cup. They have a complete second one, but it's only used at the HOF for display purposes, when the cup is out of town.
