star wars theatrical version. empire theatrical version. nothing else exists as far as i'm concerned. i use my imagination to fill in the blanks after empire. something more along the lines of what gary kurtz felt return of the jedi should be.

I'm with you in that the theatrical versions of ANH and ESB trumps all.

Though i include The Star Wars Sourcebook 1st edition from WEG in my personal canon. Also, i haven't read the Thrawn Trilogy but it's on it's way, maybe if it's good enough...

So Canon:

Star Wars theatrical version

The Empire Strikes Back theatrical version

The Star Wars Sourcebook (WEG)

Did you TYPE all that, or do you have a handy list to cut and paste?

Could you guys stop quoting that list? It's murder on my phone.

Thanks.

Oh, and:

-TPM (L8wrtr edit)
-AOTC (JasonN edit)
-ROTS (JasonN edit)
-SW
-ESB
-ROTJ

That's it, that's the list.

(I enjoy the 2D clone wars episodes but they aren't part of my canon)

Which versions of SW, ESB, and ROTJ? ;)

The originals.

The '77/'80/'83 Originals, the '81/'80/'83 Originals, the '85 Originals, or the '93 Originals? In other words, which sound mix and opening crawl do you deem the most canon?

Honestly I don't really care about the opening crawl, and all I want out of the sound mix is a good entertaining 5.1 mix that is reasonably faithful to whatever the originals should sound like (there's way too much that has changed over the years for me to care about).

Sound mixes and crawls don't really have much to do with canon anyway, do they?

Sure they do! "You're lucky you don't taste very good" vs. "You were lucky to get out of there" ring any bells?

Oh, and on another note; I've put up a list of my entire personal canon on deviantART, adding the near and semi-canon works I omitted here and making some minor edits. Here's the link if you guys are interested in seeing it all:

Not to mention the cannon joke was already made in this thread.

I need to read the Thrawn trilogy again to really take in its aspects so I'll leave that ambiguous. Thus, for me its the original films. Oh and certain elements from the Glove of Darth Vader and the Marvel comics.

Because I refuse to refuse to believe in a Star Wars universe that has neither Moffrences or this guy running around it it.

All six films, the 2D Clone Wars Cartoon, the Thrawn Trilogy, and E.T. The Extra Terrestrial.

Films: The original unaltered trilogy.

Books: Timothy Zahn's Thrawn trilogy

TV: Genndy Tartakovsy's Clone Wars (The 2D one)

Video games: Anything Old Republic from Bioware. The original X-wing and Tie-Fighter games from Lucasarts.

Other: Harmy's signature pic.

OOT

Thrawn Trilogy, Hand of Thrawn series (bilogy, dulogy?)

aspects of the X-Wing novel series (it always bothered me how the taking of Coruscant by the Rebels was portrayed).

Tales of the Jedi

Dark Empire (a guilty pleasure)

Crimson Empire (Kir Kanos is what the fanboys think Boba Fett is)

Kotor 1 & 2

X-Wing, TIE Fighter, X-Wing Alliance video games

Do these all fit together nicely? Not really.

Pretty much just the original unaltered trilogy for me.

I really enjoyed the X-Wing and Tie Fighter games on the PC, but they started adding way too many different types of ships.  Made it interesting from a game standpoint, and I thought having all those new ships was a good inclusion, but it pushed the envelope too much for me as far as being canon.

I read the 3 Zahn Thrawn books, but I didn't care for some of the first one.  It got old having Thrawn always knowing exactly what was going on, never wrong, blah blah blah.  Didn't make him threatening to me so much as just uninteresting.  So I liked it when he wasn't so infallible later on, he was a more believable character then.  Still, I've never really had the desire to reread those.  I'll reread the Robotech series if I get in the mood for sci-fi books again.

I love the Genndy Clone Wars cartoons, but as they're tied into the PT framework that rules them out as canon for me.

Not sure if I answered this before, but I honestly went back to being a Star Wars 77 fan and walked away from everything after that.   I know many of you will question why I walk away from Empire Strikes Back?  Empire and Jedi go together, and with all the changes to Jedi over the years, the movie is unwatchable at this point.

The Prequels, the SE, the lack of the OOT has just ruined the whole Star Wars experience, and the only way to forget about all that bullshit is to watch the original movie in the context of 1977.  Nobody was related, no contradictions, just a standalone movie that has a beginning, middle and ending.   I am old enough to remember Star Wars BEFORE Empire came out, so it is not hard for me to block out the sequels/prequels/SE, as The Original Star Wars was always my favorite anyway.

 Trust me, its me ;)

Don't get me wrong, I love the OOT as a kid growing up, but I did see SW in 77 and watched it on HBO in 1983 about 200 times.  We didn't get a VCR til 1985, so I only saw Empire once in the theater until 5 years later when I could watch it as much as I want.

That is why I can always look at SW as just SW, because for many years, the Original is the only movie I saw countless times.

By that reasoning Temple Of Doom would be my only Indiana Jones film because I was nuked on hormones at the time of release and Harrison's busty substances were too good to miss.

I would say that LEGO Star Wars is my canon, but then I found out that the new direct-to-video thing stars a young Han Solo. I swore before Episode III came out that if Han Solo had any part in it, I would write off the prequels completely. Now I have to write out my LEGO? I'm broken.

Well, the SE is unwatchable, but that's why we're here, right?

Of course not, geez.

I guess it will be the OUT and some selected EU material. I liked especially the X-Wing book series (fabulous), Shadows Of the Empire (pretty good), Han Solo Trilogy (quite alright) and the first installment of Dark Empire.

Serious very much. Every morning I wake up, and check to see if Ridiculous Menace has been released yet. After finding out it has not, I know today is gonna suck.
