Apparrently, it wasn't.
Also, there is a bad "rainbow" at another part in the Pre ANH tape where the tape switch occurred, so I think it was just an initial bad jump cut. I think the later release added the minor dialogue extension, ala "To be angry is to be human". I've gone over it frame by frame and the technology at the time would have made it look a lot worse if the recorder was shut off and turned back on... and remember that I have studied the entire version frame by frame to recreate it.
