He actually didnt say that he agrees with it, just that he goes along with it.

If he goes along with it, he has compromised his beliefs.  Plus, he said "the world has changed."  What the frink is that supposed to mean?

°_o I'm not sure I want to know...

EDIT: @TV's Frink below: Uhhh, that... added referenced quote (a slight quotation malfunction, situation normal).

But the OUT must be saved.

We're welcome to try, but fan-preserved version aren't going to be remembered decades down the road.

I think they will.  I actually think that what is happening on this forum is history-making and will have long term impact.  Maybe that's wishful thinking, but that is what I believe.

the blu-ray's of the star wars saga are the best the films (have) ever looked and sounded, some m(a)y not agree but that is for anyone to judge.

The way you write, "but that is for anyone to judge" comes across as "but they are wrong."

Try using the words "in my opinion" more often and you might not rub so many people up the wrong way.

DE

He can say "in my opinion" all he wants and he will still rub me the wrong way.  I will wait for him to say something new before I give him another chance.

Still not sure why he bothers to come back.  It is trollish behavior, but I don't get the sense he realizes it.  Unintentional trolling, maybe?

So confused.

If you guys think I am a troll fine that's your opinion. But getting mad and complaining about the original cuts of the OT not being on the blu-ray is not going to get them on blu-ray any faster. They will be out on blu-ray someday it just won't be right now.

I agree.  Burtt continues to be a part of it, so he condones it.   Kurtz and others left because they didn't agree with Lucas' practices.

Sure. But what's the point rubbing our noses in it? I won't give up on my dreams.

Sure, you're right: The BD might be the best home release of the StarWars hexalogy - but that's the problem! They should look and sound best - not just 'ok'.

Lucasfilm and it's corresponding companies once set the standard for presentation quality (and forcing those upon others) and now everything they do feels sloppy and half-assed - even the material George Lucas claims to care about.

LFL is not a bad company some of you on this forum think they are and no I don't work for them like some you say.

No they aren't a bad company. They just don't do as best they can. In my eyes that makes them lazy.

I don't think you're a troll. That would actually mean you were just obnoxious, not mind bogglingly stupid. Sucks for you.

I understand and I've said it so many times that fans want the original versions of the OT on blu-ray the way it was originally release in 77 , 80 and 83. But I ask what else can we do to get them on blu-ray beside online petitions and so on?  And will it take 4K when it finally comes in the home market for those cuts to be released on blu-ray?

What we can do is continue to be angry about it, and what you can do (and I understand that this could come across as hypocrisy here) is change the damn record!

Being angry about it won't solve anything. I'm not angry about it sure I would like to have them the UOT released on blu-ray someday but it is not a deal breaker for me.

Yes, they did not fix everything they were able to fix. And the things they did fix are merely patched up.

As I said: They don't work to the best of their ability. That makes them, lazy.

Excerpt from Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary:
lazy, adjective

1 (disapproving) unwilling to work or be active; doing as little as possible

2
not involving much energy or activity; slow and relaxed

3
(disapproving) showing a lack of effort or care

4 (literary) moving slowly

Personally I think KenKraly2007 is the most entertaining spambot ever and welcome its posts on this site.

I'm currently reading an interview with Kayleen Walters the Senior Director of Marketing at Lucasfilm about the blu-ray release. I just came upon this little snippet and thought I should share:

What are the challenges involved in converting a series of movies that are up to 35 years old into High Definition?

We wanted to create the best possible visual and audio experience for the home audience while maintaining the artistic integrity of the movies. We had previously done a meticulous, industry gold standard restoration when the films were first released to DVD, so we had a great base to start from. We also made some technical improvements from the previous restorationincluding some color matching, most notably on the lightsabersfor this release.

Could you provide a link the the rest of the interview, I did a google search and came up with nothing.

All I can see is that they fixed a handful of lightsaber shots they broke in 2004. Every shot I've seen has the exact same colors, except for the Death Star explosion blue ring.

Are you, by any chance, related to a person named Olié?

About LFL - either they are indeed a bad company consisting of bunch of amateurs or they are fucking liars (lairs, for mentally challenged). These are the only two possible explenations of their (mostly Lucas') claim that the cleaned up original footage has been altered without backing up the original form. Who does that? Someone, who has no clue what they are doing.

Ken makes me laugh.

His posts equate to someone going onto the National Trust message boards and saying...

'there's no point getting angry and campaigning to maintain all those at risk buildings. Some of them have been knocked down but some of them have only been slightly gutted and slightly fallen down and they will all miraculously rebuild themselves eventually if you wait long enough.'

Now I understand why some fans want the original cuts of the original trilogy because that is the versions fan's grew up with and it's a very good point.

...

Now I do like the original cut's of the original trilogy but my preface [sic] are the special editions because those are the ones I saw in the theaters and their is nothing wrong with that.

You must understand that we don't want the original movies just because that's what we happened to see first. It's because they were/are the movies.

The movies that were beloved and inspiring to fans. The movies that were so successful that Lucas was able to make two sequels and earn billions of dollars. The movies that won awards. Those original movies were/are Star Wars.

Imagine if Spielberg went back to Jaws and replaced the shark with a new CGI shark. First time watchers might love it. They might think the original is boring in comparison. Even some older fans might also think it's pretty cool. But nobody should pretend for a moment that it's still exactly the same movie. The work that went into the original shark, the awards, the movie that existed for several decades would be changed.

Do you see how this is not only about nostalgia? It's not just about preferring the version we happened to see? It's about what the movie actually is.

And it certainly doesn't help that Lucas declares the original actual Star Wars movies somehow obsolete or incomplete and not worth re-releasing to the public. It also doesn't help when so many of his additions and changes look out of place and poorly done (as much as you might like them). What Lucas does is disrespectful to his fans and to cinematic history. Lucas is free to make a billion changes with each release, but nothing will change the fact that Star Wars were the films released in 1977, 1980, and 1983 (not in 1997 or 2011).

The blue elephant in the room.
