Well, as mentioned, nothing official has been said. Just tid bits from Lucasfilm reps. But it seems as though they are basically going back to the oldest of the old and remastering it. The SE's seemed to have been rushed a bit in the sound department so the films (ANH especially) is being broken down almost sound by sound through the original stems. Which, if memory serves, are essentially the individual tracks of those sound spikes you'd see on the side of film (so seperate SFX, dialogue and music tracks). What I don't know and am not well aversed enough to tell you is if this means actually going back to ORIGINAL mag track (the tape used to record audio and then mixed into the film) or just returning to an older print and doing a step by step tune up.

It would seem like they are doing something really intense though as the film's quality has degenerated considerably. Plus, the best any of them were ever mastered for was LD and its resolution leaves a lot to be desired these days. Hope this helps you, but all I've heard is the comment about the sound stems (which is exciting nonetheless). Expect a mammoth and beautiful remaster though. Burtt is no schlub
