Hmm... The Old Republic game?

It may reference the Kotor Timeline and exist in the Kotor Universe, but it still is not Kotor III.

If it was i would be pissed i hate online mmorpg's that have a monthly subscription and no plot or story.  I much prefer a single player console game Like the first 2 kotor games or Mass Effect.

Kind of like how i skipped from final fantasy ten over to twelve because eleven was a stupid mmo.

*groan* it looks like it really is an MMO... oh well.  I kinda like MMOs, but only slightly.

It also looks like its meant to be a sort of KOTOR three. Read the FAQ, it states something like Revan never returned, but some sith empire came back instead. I hate when they finnish off a long and engaging story with a quick write up like that. The game looks kinda interesting though, like I really wouldn't mind it if it wasn't an online mmorpg.

I agree with sky on the crappiness of MMOs. I like to keep my gaming life and my social life seperate. If I want to interacts with other real people, I will go out and do so in person... or at OT.com... but yeah, I don't like MMOs. I prefer a solo experience with an engaging storyline, and one that I can revisit years down the road and enjoy all over again if I so choose, and doesn't require monthly fees and the sacrifice of a massive portion of my life.

So they chose to do this and not finish Revans story wtf?

Talk about a major fuck you to the fans.

First they put off Kotor III for that mediocre crap Force Unleashed and now this.

Fuck Lucasarts, fuck them up their stupid asses.  To quote Jay and Silent Bob.

Bioware is also on my shit list for releasing a buggy version of mass effect for the 360 and a fixed version for the pc.  also the bonus level is free on the pc version and i have to pay to download it on the xbox version.

A mmo just reeks on the part of Lucas greed i mean he already charges money for the official site and now will charge a montly subscription fee for this game.

No restored Star Wars trilogy, no real Kotor III equals no sale.

You would have to be crazy to give this jerk any more of your hard earned money.  Special Editions sucked, then the prequels, then Indy 4, clone wars and force unleashed when will it end?

IT was not enough to destroy the Eu and assrape two beloved franchises, now the games have to be ruined too.

Couldn't have put it better myself.  Online is the big thing in gaming right now, but I'm just having a hard time getting on the bandwagon.  I have managed to do some of the polling stuff on my Wii.  Other than that, it's hard for me to get involved in something that I know requires the popularity of other people to stay active.  I still own nearly every game I've ever owned, and it's just depressing to think that, ten years from now, if I try to play, for example, Mario Kart Wii online that hardly anyone's gonna be around to play with.  It seems people only buy games for the short term experience nowadays and sell them as soon as they finish them.  I always return to my old games, and that's why I have a hard time getting excited about online multiplayer and MMOs.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

The closest I get to online gaming is the Deathmatch modes of the various Jedi Knight games.  I can just log in, find a map with a bunch of people on it and kill opponents until I get bored.  No extra money to pay, no commitment to come back at some scheduled time to continue where I left off, and I still have the game's single player mode for when I want to focus on what to do next.  Deathmatch is also a good way to practice your various fighting skills for the regular game.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Video Confirmation that they are abandoning making a single player Kotor III for this crap mmo.

It is set 300 years later and you never find out what happened to Revan.  So basically they are ass raping the fans of kotor1 who fell in love with Revans story and played part 2 to uncover the little tidbits about him being in the unkown regions.  I mean this would be like if star wars and empire strikes back came out and the third act return of the jedi was never made.  Lame.

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/starwarstheoldrepublic/video/6199708

The guy who came from EA to take over Lucasarts is a jackass suit, who will strongarm the game creators and represent Lucas interests solely. Seriously scary.

And i hear no mention of  drew karpshyn since he is currently working on mass effect 2.  Sorry Lucasarts is not getting a dime from me much less an online fee.  I never fell for the lucas pig in a poke Galaxies online so why now?

I'll save my money for Mass Effect 2.  The only way of there being a real Kotor III is if this thing bombs hardcore.

Of course the same people who loved the prequels, the special editions, force unleashed and clone wars will probably be eating out of Lucasarts hands and begging to give Lucas their money for more of his table scraps.

I don't mean you ot.com guys who want the oot saved and restored not destroyed, i mean tfn types.

Funnily enough they gave the last Legacy of the Force novel an imperfect  score, but Indiana Jones 4 and Force Unleashed are the best thing since sliced bread, lol.

I come off sounding Like a real jerk and original trilogy fan extremist but when will Lucas draw the line, how much abuse of the fanbase is allowable until enough is enough.

I mean it is disheartening that  the man who created star wars sees its legacy as nothing but dollar signs.  I care for star wars more than Mr Lucas does, perhaps a bit too much.

Oh man, that line had me cracking up! Awesome skyjedi quote right there.

Edit: Look like I was lucky to catch that bit, seems you edited it out while I was making this post. I understand why you removed it, but it was still funny as hell. :)

My two bits on the situation,

I agree with Sky, KOTOR as a series has a large fan base who love the games for exactly what they are and have long been eagerly awaiting a third installment. If the third installment never came ot fruitation, that would be one thing... but in this case, they are making something completely different in lue of an actual third installment and using the KOTOR universe as a means to sell their game. Star Wars games have sunk to the point of being a joke, KOTOR as a subseries of Star Wars holds a great deal of respect from both SW fans and non SW fans alike. It would be much better to leave it as a two part series with the third part never realized than to begin dragging the KOTOR name down by making subpar games with KOTOR in the title.

I do disagree with sky's feelings that the only way to get a real KOTOR III would be if this flops seriously. I think it stands to reason that if this become a hit and generates a good deal of attention, then the possibility of them deciding that making a real KOTOR II sequel would be worthwhile would be greatly increased.

so I went back and rewatched the video and some of the guys who worked on kotor and mass effect are involved.  There is also the possibility this could be a good game and an awesome mmo, but i fucking hate mmos.  That is why despite how awesome people claimed it was i never did play final fantasy online.

I prefer a game with a single player story Like a movie, or novel would be like.

Except you can choose to Be light side or male or female and how your character looks.

The creator's or creator make a script and story plot that is followed.

MMO's as far as i know are random Chat online in game, or talk with other people online and do random quests battleling and leveling up and there is no story only a change in setting.

You could pretend a story in your head, and you do get more customization of how your character looks and evolves in an mmo but story has never been the point of mmo.

MMO to me is crap it is like that old dungeons and dragons card game only online.  Nerds can hang out and converse i can already do that for free.

Funny how people Love the online version of halo 3 for example but their is no story and only random battles like an mmo.  I only like the single player game because there is actually a story and not just some randomness, it may be fun but is it worth the money?

Next thing you know bioware will announce plans that Mass effect will be scrapped in favor of a mmo, and some angry fan will go crazy.  That is about the same thing they are doing here.

Plus this is star wars and will be kept kiddy.  At least mass effect had sex in it, Lucas will never allow that in star wars. No Ultra killing or violence.

I mean seriously all people want is a lightsaber so they can go apeshit and cut off other enemies limbs, cut them in half etc. Since it is Lucas i bet major censorship is involved.  Since he took out violence in the special editions, toned done the violence in Return Of the Jedi in 1983.   Remember Luke so called "stun setting" lightsaber on the skiff barge in return of the jedi.  He strikes them with his lasersword and all they do is fall into the sarlacs maw.  No severed limbs or cutting in half.

I am not a fan of ultra violence or killing type movies, violence just for the sake of violence is dumb.

But still Lucas had no problem with Maul being cut in half in menace, or Anakin losing his arm in clones, or losing both his other arm and legs in sith.  See he is never consistant.  Removed the laser burns from the troopers in star wars and had greedo shoot first.  But in the same movie you still have the smoking skeletons and Ponda Baba getting his arm severed by Kenobi in the Cantina and there was blood.  Then In Empire Strikes Back Luke gets his hand cut off at the wrist and there is no bood and the wound is cauterized.

Now he does not even allow kissing in the clone wars cartoon. Guess he better go back and take out those scenes in empire strikes back, Return of the Jedi, Attack of the Clones or Revenge of the Sith. Since romantic kissing between a man and woman is now considered off limits.

Man you do take these cripes to the extreme and many things I disagree with you on, but you make a very good points and I have to agree for the most part. GL has taken inconsistency to the extreme, and it deeply saddens me, thank God for the fans like Adywan  and Lex the Robot who walk closely behind Lucas with a pooper scooper and although some of the poop is stuck to the grass they atleast make an effort to clean up the shit.

I'm looking forward to getting in on it. This is replacing the Saga Edition RPG for my friends and I.

Look for ValSpence Yage the smuggler tearing up the place!

Oh and you won't get a KOTOR 3. The guys at Bioware consider this to be KOTOR 3-12 and so on. But... if you read up on the game a little more, you'll find that they are making it truly in the spirit of KOTOR. It plays very similar, it continues and expands on the original story, and the characters from the old ones make appearances. You can recruit a team of characters to help you on your quest, craft items, and choose your morality.

Actually, the only thing that is different is that the galaxy is bigger and populated with new and old friends. How is this bad?

It's a ton of fun, I think. The gameplay is very much WoW, but with a bit faster pacing. The story is what keeps you coming back again and again.

Looking forward to it.

I wasn't impressed with what I read. I mostly get frustrated because its the same Star Wars universe, just 3000 years earlier. 3000 years ago THE SAME PLANETS were big deals then too. Tattooine, Naboo, even HOTH. At least SWG had the excuse of being in the OT times. And I liked the idea of SWG in the beginning Jedi should be rare and special. Having MOST of the classes be based on Jedi/Sith seems weird. How many people AREN'T going to play as a Force user? And the races, I didn't recognize literally half of them. I think they're going too far in some ways, and not far enough in others. In the balance between newness and familiarity, they still don't seem to know where they're landing.

The way I see it, Bioware as a company have never let me down. As a fan of pretty much everything they've ever made, and knowing how much care they put into their products, I can't imagine a situation where this turns out disappointing.
