STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW — Page 976

I can NEVER understand why some people give us a hard time for liking the Revisited projects but disliking the Special Editions.  They are two utterly different things.

Ady isn't the one suppressing the originals, and if I'm not mistaken he actually made an Empire theatrical reconstruction.

Sheesh.

I think it has more to do with the fact that we refuse to worship Lucas the God.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

When someone asks you if Lucas is a God, you say YES!!!
WRONG PICTURE!

I'm going to have to write up something explaining why I think we think fan editing is ok and the SEs aren't.

The difference is simple - intention.  Revisited and other fan edits are done for fun, as a way to present the film in a new light, either improved from what already exists or an alternate version as a learning experiment.  The SEs were done strictly for profit - the opinions against the majority of the changes and the lack of attention given to things that could have been fixed but remain broken bear this out.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Thank you for catching that.

And please do a write-up.  It should be fairly obvious but for some reason it keeps getting thrown around.

I just don't see that as the case. The 1997 re-releases would have made BANK regardless of any changes. Same with the BluRays. Spending large ammounts of money to make the SE in the first place goes against the idea that it is all for profit.

Couple that with the fact that Lucas could release the SE and then the OOT later to make more money is another point that this is about ego and control and not strictly for profit.

I've always figured that most people (like me) would think the SEs were nifty, or at least not hate them, if they were just packaged with a decent OOT.

While not everyone loved them, I never heard real hatred of the SEs until Lucas started his campaign of repression.

Personally I don't have issue with the Special Editions. I don't like the changes, but I don't hate their existence.

What I take issue with is that attitude that there can only be ONE version of the films. Its a bad attitude, shared with Lucas, fans and annoyingly some fan-edit-fans that there will be a definitive version.

Why can't we have dozens of versions? And we pick the one we enjoy the most to watch?

Sooooooo

ESB:R, how are things coming along with the second unit, models, Wampa, snowflakes (or lack thereof), etc etc etc?

:)

Uh, I wasn't trying to give you a hard time. If i didn't like Revisited i wouldn't be here eagerly awaiting the relase of ESB:R. And yes, i do like the SE of the OT.

Maybe it was because i was 7 yrs old when they came out or something, but i thought they were a huge improvement over the OOT.

Interesting. When I first saw the SE trilogy I was about 6, and all I could think was how unnecessary it was. I actually really hated it, which is odd because now I love the idea of SEs, I just don't think they've been done properly (Until now, of course. Looking forward to ESB:R Ady!)

I think he was talking about Mr. Ghostface.

Yeah he was talking about me and as usual it was an overreaction. I was pointing out that there seems to be a lack of balance from some fans, as if everything Lucas changed in the SEs was disastrous and everything Adywan has done was amazing. That's the way a lot of fans seem to think, and it's silly. I think some of what Lucas did in the SEs is utter crap, like Jabba, Greedo shooting first etc, but there are some awesome things like the Falcon lifting out of Docking Bay 94, some of the X-wing shots in the battle, just as some of the things Ady did are cool and some are crap. It's all about opinion, we all have one, but like I said it's the lack of balance that I was objecting to, nothing more. And let's face it, some people go on as if Adywan invented Star Wars, when in fact about 98% of what's in ANH:Revisited is what Lucas shot. Just throwing that out there.

It's odd to accuse others of overreaction, then make an exaggerated overstatement like that.

Mmm?  I guess I should be flattered that I have a reputation for overeating on these boards, considering I've only made around 10 posts. :P

And please don't take everything I write as 100% raw emotion.  I'm not sitting here on my computer screaming to the heavens about how people don't understand me. (*thunder cracks* *raises fists* "Ghostfaaaaaaace!!!!!!")

But yeah, I think it's pretty obvious why people can OK a fan edit like Ady's and disapprove of the SE's.

I don't think he was saying you were typically overacting.

More your reaction (which he defines as excessive) is typical of reactions in general.

Either way this isn't the place to discuss this topic.

There have been threads about the ethics of Fan-Edits and SEs in general but this isn't one of them.

I'm sorry, but...

Overeating?

Best typo ever.

No, I saw it too. I wondered why the new guy was so self-conscious. Figured I had missed an insult somewhere.

LOL. Ah well, Bingo is right, this isn't the right board for this discussion. Or overeating.

Ha!  It was 7:30 in the morning when I posted that.

And out of my 31 posts (now 32), I'm pretty sure around 20 of them have been off-topic. :P

But I shall refrain from such foolishness for the time being.

 (Edited)

Adywan, you may recall that I mentioned some print damage (a few brief, but distracting white artifacts that pop in and out) that appears around the time where Luke approaches Leia in the medical area -

...well if you *are* able to erase them, it would be good if you could also get rid of some others that also appear during this effects shot below, when the Falcon turns it's lights on as it enters the asteroid cave -

(note: this is just the original shot I've shown, and not Adywan's nicely enhanced version)

i've always wondered how you got to replace the lines. For example, when Rouge 3 was also Rouge 2. How did you manage to change that to "Steady Rouge 3"?
