I think I read that he had to re-record some sounds. Personally, while I'm not against remixes for those that want them, I always watch the original mix if its available. Often it's not, like when Manga Ent released The End of Evangelion. You had DTS 6.1, DD 5.1 and a remixed stereo from the 6.1 in both languages. Sadly, the original stereo mix(which the director insisted on) wasn't included. I bought the sub video. ^_^

Well...if there's one thing I'd let them touch up for DVD it's the audio for the movies. I recently watched the 1995 releases and the sound mix is really poor. There are all kinds of inconsistancies and flubs in the music (the Emperor's arrival scene has some odd anomalies in the cue). The only sounds that irked me were Luke's scream and the "close the blas door" stuff.

Then you were watching the 97 SEs. Don't worry, the scream irks everyone(except possibly Jimbo).

Hehe. Actually, I formatted the statement wrong. The 1995 release (and previous video releases) had terrible sound mixing. Explosions and other items just sound flat and restrained by the technology.

When the SE's were released in 1997 the only thing that'd bugged me (sound wise...visually is another story!) were those two instances

The SE's actually had a really strong and powerful sound stage IMO.

alexborn007, Your right the sound mix on the 1995 thx home video release is terrible and the dvds of the sw trilogy will be much better because dvds sound better than vhs.

Duh. The sky is blue. Theres water in the specific ocean. DVDs are better then VHS in every possible way. Also I don't understand the winning about Lukes scream. I don't consider it a good change but it is easily ignored. Its the instinct of people to scream when they fall. Its no big deal. I personally don't dislike any of the changes in The Empire Strikes Back. The only changes I dislike are Greedo shooting first and Haydens head.

The main complaint about the scream (on my end at least) is that it seems so unnatural. A lot of the changes in the SE seem quite forced. Sure, the scream is ignorable...but did it ever have to be added? The wampa...eh, I can live with it.

Probably the best opinion on the whole SE thing is that South Park episode when Trey Parker and Matt Stone re-do the 1st episode of the show with the technology they use today instead of the cardboard. They even add some of the same stuff Lucas did. My Point being: I just feel like there's this forced change on ESB and ROTJ (even ANH in places). They had the technology down pretty well by ESB and ROTJ's effects are good by today's over the top CGI...so why bother aside from remastering the negatives and soundtrack? Well whatever, that's been the debate all this time hasn't it?

Oh and I wouldn't pass judgment on the Hayden thing just yet. There are many conflicting reports on that one, just FYI

Unfortunitly the Hayden head thing is definutly real. As for looks scream no he didn't have to but it is really nothing to complain about. I am completly neutral toward this change. The wampa is a great change that improves the scene so much.

I'm just a sucker for "less is more". That sums up a lot about Star Wars in general right now. So little is left to the imagination anymore. The prequels are notorious for this IMO, but that's not for this thread.

And even though the Hayden thing seems so definite, I'm gonna wait until 9/21 to say who's right

My only real hate is the Shuttle in ESB...Ruins the flow and it really pissed me off...

So he comes up with the idea to fuck around with the Star Wars films again...and he changes alot of AOTC.....How would you feel, that the film you loved for so many years, suddenly chnaged to a bag of knob...how would you feel???

hell he thinks AOTC is a masterpiece... he thinks Schindlers List would have been far superior in colour... he thinks Natalie Portman was a great actress in the Star Wars movies..

The Special Editions are the same movies with better effects? You mean better effects like the "better" Han and Greedo scene in A New Hope, the "better" Alderaan, Death Star and Death Star II explosions, the "better" scene where Luke now screams as he falls, the "better" sequence that now shows Darth Vader going to his Star Destroyer, which uses footage from Return of the Jedi as he arrives, the "better" Jabba dance sequence, the "better" looking Sarlaac with its new (and fake looking) beak and the "better" end celebration at the end of Return of the Jedi? Are these the "improvements" and "better effects" you're always talking about?

Maybe for you the originals and SEs are the same movies, but for me the SEs and originals are practically two different trilogies because of all the changes that are being done (especially if more are done with this DVD release, which is most likely happening).

SpyderX, you may have just restarted this thread. We all know that Jimbo sees these as "improvements". We do not. End of story. As for the scream, one person wrote somewhere that Luke's fall w/out screaming was the moment he became a jedi in their eyes. He accepted his fate. The scream ruined that. Also, VHS stereo benifits over DVD due to lack of compression. I only have the 92 realease(and what's left of Dad's ps SE set). The 92 set always sound fine, from a stereo POV.

Just curious if you were the one busted for sitting on her front curb reading a book. Mom called the guy in as a stalker. Police came by and asked what he was doing. He said he was reading a book and didn't even know it was Natalie Portman's house. Cops supposedly claimed that they get a few calls a month from her mom claiming she's being stalked. It might be a bit of paranoia, but why would some guy just sit on a random person's curb and read? Why not go somewhere public? This was about a month or so ago. Sure it wasn't you, Jimbo?
