Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released) — Page 64

Yeah, when you look through DJ's V3/Blu thread you'll find dozens of very similar comments.

As to Angel, the only thing I can say is that I already did my best to create continuity between the different sources (actually that is the whole point of this project) and all modesty aside, I think my best was pretty good most of the time.

I was going to ask if your brain is a "cut and paste job", but after seeing your artwork of Princess Leia I forgive you :)

Angel, I don't mean to come down on you for the tone of your comments when it appears English isn't your first language, but I have to say I'm really getting tired of seeing your "contributions" in these threads taking the form of endless nitpicking and criticizing.  It's okay to give critical feedback for the sake of helping improve an edit, but throwing out the odd compliment here and there would be nice too.

It's also a little irksome that you criticize the video editing skills of others when you have demonstrated no such skills yourself.

I know that harmy :) Just to give for the best result available maybe it would require more work.

Not anyone is ready to take the hard path of fixing each shot with care and start rotoscoping like mad. Its up to Harmy to establish if he wants to gets deeper or he is happy with that(as most of the people i guess)

It will be nice to help and i do help who wants it, as far as i can to any level revealing errors or things with more effort can look better.

I hope that make things more clear :)

Deep respect to you puggo :)

Um, no, it doesn't make things more clear, you basically just repeated that you think I've done a sloppy job and I didn't put enough effort into the shots. Maybe if you gave some specific examples? Don't get me wrong, I'm interested, it's just that your posts sound sort of mocking.

On a different note, a friend of mine got the Blus, so I was able to compare them with my HDTV sources and while very small, there is a noticeable difference. The problem is that I had him rip a bit of it for me (I don't even have a BD drive in my computer) and my computer just couldn't handle it.

And I was also thinking about finally learning to use Vegas, so that I could export in higher quality and maybe even make BD25 versions, but again, my computer froze every time I tried importing a video into Vegas. So now I'm sort of discouraged, as there are these higher quality sources, which could make the edits better but I just don't have the hardware and I don't see myself getting a new computer in the next 3 yrs... :-(

Harmy's recreation is seamless as already it is. The only improvement would be that one day when he has a better computer to use the bluray source and do the entire project in 1080p.

I wrote this before his last post!

The basic idea of this edit, using differents sources, implies that some elements could be jarring anyway. I saw this edit and it's a very good work. It shows nothing but love and dedication.

That's said, some camera tracking, or "mixing" (like the Dewback in front of the cantina) can be seen and so I think it's fair to say that it's not 100% perfect.

But it's the closest of a HD version of the original cut we have, so thank you for your work. I was pretty pleased with it. We know Angel is not a "hater" and only wants to help.

Harmy,

If you need a better computer to help you with your work, please let us know and we'll happily donate some funds to help the cause.

Also, if you want proper Blu-Ray rips of the films, I can send you the versions that were encoded by the DON group (as they should be the best quality). I believe their 720p encoding of the HDTV rips were your source for your work... so if you need the Blu-Ray version, just say the word and I'll get them to you. I also have the original untouched .ts files as well.

I'd be down for a new-computer-for-Harmy donation for sure. I'd put down 50 bucks or something, "it's" worth way more than that to me anyway.

@Josh: I don't think I'll be doing a WP this time. V1.0 was my WP for this version.

@Ginge and Stinky: I actually considered that, since it would be really nice to be able to work with the Blus and do everything in lossless (something I can't do now, since I don't have the hard drive space). But on the other hand, I'd feel quite bad taking money. I'll have to think about it.

As to the BD rips, if I had the hardware, I'd probably pick up the OT set and rip it myself to lossless avi. but in the current state of affairs, it would be pointless to use the Blus.

Author

I have rips of the full BRs, the native stream is .ts, but would be easy to convert to .avi for editing. If you don't want to go through the trouble of ripping yourself, I can send you the files. If you do rip yourself, you'll need a program called "AnyDVD HD" which strips away the various protection schemes on the BR.

I think an official donation is in order here. So how much do you think you'll need Harmy? For a new computer that will allow you to work in lossless form and not be constrained or forced to make compromises...

I think we can easily raise $1,000 for you... it's really the least we could do. I'm in for $100, as Stinky said, these films are worth more to me than that.

Lots of people would be more than happy to put down a few bucks, given what it would mean in the long run.

It's not like you'd be spending it on whores.

Although that's what I'd do.

Well, it's problematic, because I keep going back and forth between my home town and the city where I study and also my favourite working environment is a café (at least half of the work on v1.0s was done there ;-D ), so I really need a laptop. And also, unfortunately, computers are quite a bit more expensive here, so I'd guess I'd need at least 1500$ to get something with a quadcore, 8GB ram, a fast 1TB hard drive (and absolute necessity for effective video editing) and a BD burner and that is a lot of money...

Author
Time

I don't see $1500 being too far out of reach. Or perhaps we can set up the fund and then use it to buy a top notch laptop here in the states and someone can ship it over. The burner can be a separate usb attachment, the computer doesn't need to have it built in.

Either way, I'd like you to strongly consider this option. It's not problematic at all, I'm sure everyone who posts here would be willing to donate something. As I said, I'm in for $100 and I know I can recruit others to donate who don't even know about ot.com or this project.

I'm all for supporting Harmy in whatever way is appropriate... we just need to be careful not to get him into trouble.  There are people on the other side of the aisle, so to speak, that might very much like to paint his efforts in a negative light. And if LFL were to accuse any of us of collecting money for fan-edits, it could shut us all down.

The X0 and OCP situations have left some of us a bit wary whenever the subject of $$ comes up.

I'm not saying that we pay for his project or copies of the films... we're just donating funds so our friend can have a new computer. There's nothing wrong with that... and there should be zero legal issues here.

Well, except the part where you keep offering Blu rips.  That's piracy.

Yeah, that's exactly why I'm hesitant about this.

On the other hand,  Ady's doing it big time and there don't seem to be any problems. And my current equipment is seriously deficient for this kind of work (for example, even when everything is running smoothly - and it hardly ever is - it takes about 3 seconds to render each frame of the 1/2res preview when working in AE, so my work could be much faster with a better computer) and with the money I currently get, I can barely support my living in Pilsen, so donations is actually something I've been playing with in my mind for quite some time, but still, I always thought better of it for those reasons that Puggo talked about.

How do you know Ady is doing it "big time"? that is somewhat of a pretty bold statement don't you think? $1500.00 cash is "big time" lol.

It has nothing to do with piracy, or donating for a specific project. I'm offering to donate for a new computer. What you do with that computer... wink wink motherfucker.

Some of us will donate money and Dark Jedi will continue to donate transparent jealousy.

Well, for one, Ady already got donated a whole pretty awesome computer (which I feel he absolutely deserves, don't get me wrong) and this:

Star Wars Revisited news page:

Revisited also had a fund raiser in the weeks leading up to the release of the Blu-rays. We asked that everyone on the Facebook Page donate a single unit of their currency. Some even went above and beyond this goal and donated the entire cost they would have spent on the Blu-ray set! We should all be grateful for their generosity.

or

Anyone that donates towards ESB:Revisited between 1st July 2011 and the final cut off point for donations, once the cost of the materials has been covered,(i will announce that donations are closed one everything needed has been purchased and any donations made after this time will be immediately refunded/refused) will have their names entered into a draw to win one of these one off items (postage may have to be paid for by the winner if outside of the UK and depending upon size of their selected prize). How it will work is that for every £5 donated that person will be allocated a ticket that will be put into the hat for the draw. So that mean the more you donate the higher the chance of winning.

And again, I'm not saying there's anything bad about that, just answering your question.

And yes, 1500$ is big time, which, if you'd care to re-read it is what I was saying in that post.

Yeah you got me, you are so full of shit, I would like to continue, but you Sir are absolutely not worth it, we know what you are here, it is pretty transparent, you add nothing but stupid crazy comments.

Not jealous, more dumbfounded at this whole situation, $1500.00 for a PC to work with the Blu-rays that he has said more than once he had no interest in using, so yes, it is truly amazing to me, but its all good.
