Off topic, but the way those Gungan musicians move has always really annoyed me - they look awful.

Funny because that is one of the few things I like about that final scene.  They kinda remind me of the USC Trojan style high-step marching band.  What bugs me is anakin's new haircut... doomed to be dated almost immediately.

The weird thing about Luke's saber in that scene is that, if you look at the compositing test clip that appears in ILM: Creating the Impossible (the one where we see a series of various partial composites and individual elements on black), in the portion that has the saber blade animation by itself on black, the blade has a real blue glow. Then in the clip of the composited image (which seems to be from the same test reel, not a different source), it's that aqua color that we know from most of the old transfers.

The only versions I've seen where the saber actually seemed to look blue throughout in the Falcon scenes were the Moth3r and Catnap telecines. Even with the lossy quality, I can still make out that it's blue in those, and even in the scenes where the optical glow is kind of weak compared to the white glow of the on-set prop, the blue glow still looks the proper shade of blue. (Though I'm not sure if those have accurate colors anyways, due to not being properly timed.)

For anybody who saw the Baltimore screening of the Technicolor print, what did the saber look like on that? Did it, in fact, look properly blue on the original theatrical prints (as it seems from the bootleg telecines)? The glow was apparently blue at some point, when did it start looking aqua or turquoise or whatever?

Just noticed this for the first time while watching the Blu Ray of AOTC, went back and checked the DVD. It's there too! Can't believe I never noticed this!

AOTC - Scene is palps office. End of steps, left side of screen.
26:13-26:14

When lil Annie and Palps are walking away from the window the camera pans with them towards the steps. The tracking of the last step and column is off, then suddenly it snaps into place. Sure it's fast, probably been there for 9 years, but how does this stuff get missed? Better yet, how does this get missed for 9 years while they are "fixing" other stuff?

Did they fix the flipped shot of Anakin as in the ROTS Mustafar fight?

Not that I care or anything...

Just wondering...

The set in the office was a CGI matt-painting, Something was off about the tracking of the steps. Hard to explain and I'm not sure if screenshots would explain it because it's only obvious when the camera pans. I never noticed it on the dvd (but it's there), it really popped out at me on the Blu Ray.

It took a few times to spot it, but he's right.

(The round part, around the circle bit in the center of the room, and the wall at the other side of the room goes with it)

Weird CGI step.

Turned green in 2004. Corrected in 2011, that's good. But this is a lightsaber shot that needs completely remaking anyway due to the way it wobbles. There was no pole in the hilt for this shot -- because Luke switches it off without a jump cut -- so it was hand-drawn without a reference. The beam is also too thin comared to other shots in the scene.
IN NEED OF FIXING SINCE: 1977?
IGNORED CHANCES TO FIX: Oh boy

How ugly this shot may look to some, I just want to point it out that it was remade for the 1997 SE. The saber along with the remote and chess elements was digitally re-composited. The saber itself look quite different than the original, the blade was extended for example.

The original effect was quite impressive back in the day due to using so many elements in the same shot.

I never really thought about that, msycamore. You've got the blade, the remote and all the little chess men. That's a lot!

Don't forget the remote-laser in this later shot:

^does that laser hit what I think it does. ;)

Even if the volume of elements aren't that impressive, (some shots in the asteroid secuence in ESB used over 40 different elements I think) it was quite impressive in how well integrated it was with the live action in those Falcon scenes.

Weird weres 3PO's face in that last picture????

I have a memory of watching Star Wars once a year at Christmas on tv and the little monster chess pieces used to be black and white! Am i right?

The training remote is covering it up.

No. They were always in color, they were just much less saturated before 2004.

I dont own the blurays, but Ive seen the throne room battle from ROTJ.  One thing thats always bugged me is the scene where luke is pressing Vader backward onto a walkway with the hand-rails.  Just before Luke cuts Vaders' hand off he narrowly misses Vader with a couple of wild lightsaber swings.  Lukes swinging saber makes contact with the railing and is STOPPED by the railing.  WTF! Being that it is a lightsaber, it should have gone THROUGH the railing.  Then when luke cuts vaders' hand off, his saber also cuts through the railing, like its suppose to.  That was a huge error and it still hasnt been fixed! BOOOOO LFL!! Thumbs down!!

Here are two poor matte jobs which continue to exist:  (caps are GOUT and 2004, but these two are in the BD as well)

I noticed this last night when watching ESB on TV, so I assume it has not been fixed yet.

When Luke arrives on Dagobah and R2 gets taken under water, you see a person run across the screen back in the fog.  Almost reminiscent of some Bigfoot footage.  :)

I just watched that clip like 3 times in a row, and I guess it is.  I didn't realize that he ran after R2.

Well darn... thought I found something cool! :)

For ANH I would've liked to have seen more action from the Y-wings during the DS assault.  They dont do anything until the trench runs.  Some nice dog fighting to assist the x-wings would've been cool to see, along with strafing the DS surface and taking out cannons.

Same in ROTJ, except this time its the B-wings.  They dont do anything after they lock s-foils in attack position along with the x-wings.  And another thing that bugs me is when Lando tells everybody to "pull up", there should've been more depth between the fighters and DSII.  The fighters look huge and the DS small during the initial evasive maneuvers.  I think ILM did a better job with creating depth in ANH.
