And the beautiful part about Revisited is that you'll have an OT without most of the added PT references, and a PT edit you could take or leave.

I'll believe it when I see it. I known Adywan is well known for making miracles come true, but seriously, turning prequels into actual good movies comparable with the originals? I just don't believe it. But the next time i am watching any of the prequels in full is when they get revisited, that's for sure.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It confuses the heck out of me every time someone does that. But the Lego fad was over, so...

even when it's done mockingly it still annoys me.

Good point. I'm not gonna edit the post, but I'll remember this for the future

So, I apologize, sir.

Apology accepted, Capta... I mean... Apology accepted.

You're no dick.

Thanks! :)

But in case anyone was questioning my gender, I do have one.

In other news, I am just as skeptical about Ady's PT, but eagerly await it nonetheless. I assume it will be out by the time I have grandchildren?

So if I understand correctly, you'll be using the blu-rays for about 90% of ESB:R and also ANH:R and RotJ:R ??

Could you perhaps post some screenshot comparisons of ESB:R before and after the source switch?

Cheers

Adywan just got so excited about doing the prequels, he's deleted all of the work done on ESBR and will get back to it after he's done the prequels, RotJR, and ANHRHD. You can expect ESBR in about 15 years. ;-)

PLEASE tweet that, and post it in the SW:R official site and FB.

Let us know about the reactions you get. ;)

I lol'd hard at Tim's original post. Then again, I usually complain the loudest about overreactions to SW, so I got what he was going for.

Also, his avatar confuses me too. I keep thinking he's Anchorhead!

Not sure if this has been mentioned or not (not in the list on post 1 at least...) but will you be adding motion blur or AE's new stabilizer effect to this scene?

...anyone?

Well I, for one, will be doing no such thing.

Why the hell would you WANT to change that scene? It doesn't look that way because of a technical error for heaven's sake.

It may be possible to present that scene in a interestingly different way regardless of how well it was originally created.

This is a special edition not a restoration.

I can't speak for the techniques suggested as I'd have to see some examples to make a comparison but I'm not filled with rage by changing a scene in a film that already looks good if it matches ethos of this project (which to make a genuinely special special edition).

Change for change sake is bad but change to make some sort of visual difference which sits better with the other changes in this presentation needn't be based on just technical 'errors' or shortcomings in the original versions of either ESB or the various ESB:SEs.

Uh, Battle Droid head in sandcrawler? Battle of Heros music? Seems like some Reference to the PT. Which i would prefer so there is some relation to the PT.

The battle droid head is one of my favorite parts of ANHR, the first thing I saw that made me KNOW this was my kind of Special Edition. It's in one shot, there are probably people who won't see it the first few times. I honestly forgot about Battle of the Heroes, but with Purist existing and the HD version having a choice (which if it doesn't, I'm going for not having it), my point still (kind of) stands.

Maybe a different version of it would have worked better.

It would have sounded better in dobbly.

Its time for the ESB:R be transform into a fanedit-fanfilm hybrid? Cant see the reason to remain into the fanedit only status anymore :P

Nice news on the activity on hoth

Because it WAS a technical error - the footage was incorrectly transferred at 24 frames per second and then slowed down in post. For it to be considered an "artistic" approach would just be ignorant; you can argue that for a film like Gladiator which uses choppy slow-mo in a time where 60fps film is readily available, but the shoddy frame rate in that scene from ESB is a technical issue. The matte paintings stood well in their time and have gotten a bit of a boost, so why not this scene? It doesn't change the tone of the scene, nor does it change the story or pace of the film.

I'm all for this change.

What would be the difference? Copyright or stuff like that?

I guess since fan editing is not a clear concept in terms of copyright, Adywan would hardly register any material, since that would imply oficialize his activity and you never know how things could end up happening, he could be risking years of work...

Anyway, I don't know.

I guess then that adywan can't copyright any of the new filming footage that will be incorporated into the movie yes? so it will available for any use all over the net credit or not given.

Itmight the legal grey area for the copyright restrictions at the end.

^Is posting in bold your new "thing," like Dayv posting in all caps is his "thing"? ;)

Anyway, everything is shades of gray. I dunno if I'd call it fanfilm, since the actual amount of totally new material is still pretty small in comparison with the overall movie. Doesn't even matter what it's classified as; people are going to come in droves to follow the progress and watch it no matter what.

Wait...really!??!  I always assumed that was an artistic choice......there a source to confirm this?

Personally, I wouldn't mind enhancing that sequence in some way if there's a good idea....but I think it works fine as it currently is...intentional or not.  The choppy framerate gives it an almost dream like surreal effect.....works well with the tone of the scene.

I guess you are right. The problem is even with the smallest amounts of newly added and filmed material falls into copyright rights from ady and the second unit(?). The bottom line is if ady allow the edit will be copyrighted free from the point of view of using the new elements but given credit for the effort.

It IS definitely intentional. It is slowed down by repeating every frame exactly 3 times but the lightsabres are animated separately for each frame. The choppy slowmo effect starts with the shot of Vader entering and ends with the last shot of the cave scene, which is exactly the part that is supposed to be a dream/hallucination. There is nothing erroneous about it and it most certainly isn't a frame-rate issue and it would be seriously ignorant to think so. And 60fps for slow motion was surely readily available in 1979 just like now.

I'm not saying that Ady couldn't enhance it and give it some more modern dream-like effect but it definitely was not an error back then.
